And there have been a lot of Firefox-related and other layoffs in the restructuring. If the new product strategy is successful, there will be more resources to support Firefox development in coming years -- I don't think anyone expects magic to happen in 2020. If the pandemic ends sooner rather than later, that also will help.
</p><p>Clearly it will take longer to launch new features and fix bugs if there are fewer engineers on the case. Fans of Firefox will need to continue using the browser, reporting bugs, and volunteering where they can to get the browser through this transition. That includes helping friends with their Firefox issues and if they are concerned about privacy, helping them learn about Firefox.
</p><p>You mentioned concern about security, and there has been a lot of confusion about the layoff of the "threat management" team. It was clarified that this team works on Mozilla server infrastructure, not on Firefox. Obviously server security is important, too, so probably some other IT people got a bunch of new responsibilities to help cover the downsizing. Anyway, there are lengthy discussions of all this on Reddit.
