i received a message that there was problems with my phone payment, went to the site linked and it didn't seem quite right so i typed in the actual web address for the company, did an online chat and was told that the other site was a fake and they were doing what they could to take it down. My query is why was this not detected by the firefox browser? The security lock was locked in the address bar ? or is thre something i should have added to my browser?? thank you. i am on a pc, latest version firefox,

Hi ajdstitch, the lock in the address bar indicates that the connection between your Firefox and the server is encrypted, and therefore the communication is private from anyone snooping on the line. Unfortunately, it does not mean you can trust the server on the other end!

Firefox's anti-phishing feature uses lists from the Google SafeBrowsing project. It's possible that site was set up so recently that it isn't yet on the list. To help out fellow users, you can report a phishing site here:

do you remember the website url for the fake site? firefox can't always detect it, I think it has to be glaring or something similar
