How were the passwords lost? What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history . . . .

Something to do with AVG update. Bookmarks ok. All logins and passwords gone. Followed instructions to fix problem - downloaded add on for this problem - didn't work.

Have you contacted AVG?

Do you have a logins.json.corrupt file in the profile folder ?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi guys. Thanks for your help but nothing has worked.

I had this problem about a year ago and nothing from the forum helped and in the end I had to manually enter all my logins again.

I'm really pi**ed off with this and might have to stop using Mozilla!

Don't you make backups of files in the profile folder ?

For the passwords this would be logins.json and key4.db.

apparently this is where I am too, is there no way to fix this issue that is not related to AVG or AVAST, it is the firefox update

I didn't make backup of files because I didn't know my files would be destroyed by AVG/Mozilla.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I have a pc running windows 8. and use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. Recently I lost all my logins and passwords. I saw that it was caused by an update to AVG free. I have tried everything that has been suggested by the Mozilla Forum but nothing worked. Can you help me?

I have contacted AVG and they say that AVG will not touch Passwords or Logins !! Still need an answer...

Did you check your profile folder ?

The passwords are stored in logins.json as login records in JSON format and you can check this file in a text editor to see if you see logins listed in the file. If there have been problems with the password file then you might have a logins.json.corrupt file.

Constant prompts about this. Small but annoying bug, especially since those working on the fix are saying it's fixed. It's not fixed. This undermines my trust in FF and I will be dumping it.

I use a simple batch (.bat) file in a Scheduled Task which copies all three of my profile folders, each day, automatically.

Well done.
