Windows 7 firewall keeps asking to allow Firefox, Thunderbird, Avast and a few others access to the internet. I click "allow", but it keeps asking and does not allow. Went into Control Panel, etc, as far as "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall", then "Allow another program", selected and clicked on Firefox.exe, then OK. Did the same for Thunderbird and Avast. Still wouldn't let Firefox and others access. Checked the "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall" window again and no sign of Firefox, Thunderbird or Avast in allowed list. Did this over again, but the .exe files and ticked boxes of Firefox, Thunderbird and Avast keep disappearing, seemingly upon clicking the OK button. How can I retain Firefox, Thunderbird and Avast along with their ticked boxes in the allowed list?

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
