Using Firefox 70.0.1 on macOS 10.14.6. I'm running into two issues that seem related and which I haven't solved. Firstly, there are some websites that refuse to let me log in (notably Flickr) except in a private window. There are others, such as a Leica camera forum, that let me log in but only show images if I do so in a private window. What I've done so far: -turned off extensions for those sites (uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard) -turned off Firefox tracking protection -tried in safe mode -cleared cookies and cache -(in response to a recent thread about a similar issue) ensured dom.webnotications.enabled is set to 'true'

This issue seems to have arisen with the update to v.70. Any thoughts?

I'm sure you must be right. Installed extensions are: uBlock Origin Malwarebytes Browser Guard 1Password X Enhancer for YouTube Disable HTML5 Autoplay

Only the first two ought to interfere with page elements, but even if disabled for Flickr and the Leica forum, I have problems. Oddly, I can get logged in and see pages normally in a Private window with those extensions active, yet I cannot in safe mode when they ought to be disabled entirely. I made a third profile and this time kept uBlock Origin in non-advanced mode, and did not import all my settings from the other profile's installation. Currently I can log in to Flickr and see images on the Leica forum with all extensions active, and this has survived two quits and restarts. Fingers crossed it lasts! Maybe uBlock Origin is still affecting page content in some way even when disabled for a site.

hi... I think your cookie is messed up somehow and try to clear cookie

more options

I've cleared cookies but it makes no difference.

Private uses a separate cookie container (jar if you want) so it could be cookie issue that resetting your cookies isn't resolving because the cookies aren't being distributed properly?

Looking at another post, someone else was talking about image loading issues they were having with facebook that were resolved when using private mode and I wonder if the cookie issue is related, in this case, facebook was adding "www.facebook.com" cookies but not "facebook.com" cookies and manually adding "facebook.com" to the exception list allowed those cookies to be accepted which corrected the behavior:

I think I see the problem. When Firefox prompts you to approve cookies on Facebook, it displays www.facebook.com. However, apparently that is not enough to cover all of the cookies on the site and Firefox is not prompting for the more general domain facebook.com. If I go into the Exceptions dialog and manually create an entry for facebook.com (Allow for Session in my case), then the setting works. Not sure why Firefox isn't prompting for all cookies.??

So maybe try doing that with leica camera forum at least and see if that resolves it? We might be getting closer to a solution in that case.

Let me know what you find out.

I added https://www.l-camera-forum.com/ and l-camera-forum.com/ (which then shows in the list as https://l-camera-forum.com/) to the exceptions list as allowed to use cookies, but the forum still doesn't show any images, either linked from elsewhere or posted as attachments.

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I have just tried that but still no images!

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Thanks for the suggestion but I still don't see any images in the threads after forgetting the site.

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.

  • you can tap the Alt key or press the F10 key to show the hidden Menu Bar temporarily

check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools -> Page Info -> Permissions".

Check "Tools -> Page Info -> Media" for blocked images

  • select the first image and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list
  • if an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain

You can check this pref on the about:config page.

  • permissions.default.image (1)
  • network.http.sendRefererHeader (2)

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows an highlighted shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check in the Web Console what content is blocked

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

Firefox's built in Enhanced Tracking Protection is Off for this site. uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard are both off for this site.

With respect to Page Info, the checkbox to Block Images is unchecked. The images that show in the media pane are page elements and user avatars, but none of the images contained in posts show up there.

I'm using a MacBook Air, with no discrete GPU, so hardware acceleration should not be a problem.

permissions.default.image is set to (1) network.http.sendRefererHeader is set to (2)

From the web console results I'm guessing this has something to do with javascript?

I think I have the answer! I created a new profile and from it I can log in to flickr.com and see images in my Leica forum. This is with the same extensions that I re-added via Firefox Sync.

Blast! After quitting and restarting Firefox the problems are back.

You only have those two extensions too, right? Are you using userChrome.css? Since you tried a new profile and it fixed it (and it works in private mode where add ons are disabled) perhaps disabling those extensions for the page isn't doing enough? Do they have additional settings for privacy protection that might still be enabled?
