I don't want to see it anymore or see the icon. it won't go away! I've looked up how to disable it, but it persists and every time I load a new site, there it is in my face. I already have this handled and don't want the interference from firefox.

I've also closed all windows, reloaded several times, I've done everything possible and it won't quit

Adjust your global Enhanced Tracking Protection settings this should help you disable it. Set to custom, and then uncheck all boxes

thank you, your help is genuinely appreciated, but I had already tried that multiple times. I came here because nothing is working. I've tried several times to turn it off but every time I load a new site it's back.

I even tried one more time after your post. still doesn't work.

How do you know it's on? Are there trackers still being blocked? Or is it just that the shield is showing but nothing is being blocked?

the icon is back, it's turned on, and it's active. I want nothing. I want pre-enhanced blocking configuration. it shouldn't show an icon at all if it's not enabled, or it might be there with a slash, not the best option, but better than on all the time.

this is enough to make me stop using firefox. I wasn't asked if I wanted this and now I can't turn it off.

If you have all options disabled, then nothing is being blocked, no tracking protection is happening. The shield exists as an entire protection panel, not just for tracking protection.

firefox can keep their panel and serve it to someone who wants it. I found instructions to turn it off and I want it off. something is not functioning properly.

also, if it wasn't still active it wouldn't be adding sites. it's still adding sites. I delete them and it adds them back anyway. something is broken and maybe it's okay with you, but not with me.

Can you post a screenshot of "adding sites"?

easier to just stop using firefox since I'm not being listened to or, apparently, believed. thanks.

In Firefox 70 the shield icon is permanently present in the lobvious and can't be removed.

You can set these four prefs to false to disable Tracking Protection.

  • privacy.trackingprotection.enabled
  • privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled
  • privacy.trackingprotection.cryptomining.enabled
  • privacy.trackingprotection.fingerprinting.enabled

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
