Why do bookmarks keep disappearing?

This happens almost daily, or even while Firefox is open. The ONE folder of bookmarks (on the toolbar) that I use mostly keeps going away. I have to restore bookmarks which always fixes it but it's a silly hack, Where do they go to begin with? I've seen questions similar, but not exactly the same? When the bookmarks leave, where do they go? Firefox hell?

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Hi, Here is the about:support paste. It's funny also that after trying to do this the first time it stopped letting me type in the message box and the connection to the support server timed out. FIrefox, you've got problems.

Thanks, Steve

Hi, Thanks for the info. No, I have absolutely NO unnecessary or predatory software like that. I'm a minimalist ... I don't even have a virus scanner. I even deleted the windoze update service cause I don't need micro$oft's bloat. Fortunately I don't think any software like this is a problem.

Hi, Yes I am using Firefox sync but I really only use it on one device. It is on though.

Sync does nothing for you with a sole device; except for the possibility of corrupting data if your data on the Sync server becomes corrupted.

Disconnect from Sync, then restart Firefox as run the Places Integrity Check again and post those results here.

Thanks for your response. Here is the output after disconnecting from sync (and just now I looked up and saw a bookmark folder gone :D )

Did you check (e.g. do a search) to make sure that you didn't move the bookmarks to another folder ?

Did you try "Organize -> Undo" in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) in case the bookmarks were removed accidentally ?

more options

Hi, I definitely didn't move them. I don't ever any think of doing anything to them. I leave them exactly as they are, and hope they won't go away. Sometimes a folder will move to the "off-the-screen" part of the toolbar, but usually it just disappears. I don't do any organizing or moving of any kind.

Well, that 2nd Integrity Check shows the same 1425 bookmarks as the first one, which tells us nothing unless that folder (again) "disappeared" between the 2 "Check's".

Do you have any bookmarks / folders stored anywhere except for the Bookmarks Toolbar "folder" in the User Interface?

1425 bookmarks isn't very much at all, but to me it seems to be a lot for only the Bookmarks Toolbar and the BTB Folder.

Have you checked the other Folders in Bookmarks? Namely the "Bookmarks Menu" folder and the "Other Bookmarks" folder?

And if the missing folder somehow ended up in the Bookmarks Menu folder?

more options

Hi,

The reason it shows the same number is because I once again restored my backup. I don't ever change them, I just restore the good copy when they go away.

I do have other bookmarks, but I don't even use those so I don't know if they're doing anything.

I'll see if they are in the bookmarks menu folder next time they disappear.

Thanks, Steve

I've checked the other areas, but I can't find them. It's pretty much one folder that goes away (the only one I really use.) the-edmeister said
