I've been having trouble today with Gmail showing the proper time in emails sent or received within Firefox.

At first I thought this may be a global problem with my PC. But I have checked WIndows 10's date/time setting, and synced that time to a time server, yet Gmail shows a time four hours later than the Eastern US time zone where I live.

I went further and checked settings in Google Calendar, which controls the time in Gmail; that setting is correct. What surprised me is that when I ran Gmail in Chrome, the time was spot on. Yet in Firefox it continues to show incorrectly, even after clearing history/cache/cookies/accounts. So I'm thinking the problem may be peculiar to Firefox, but I don't know why.

Today I applied the most recent Win10 update, but the problem was the same before/after that. I hope someone might have an idea of how to solve this, for Firefox is my go-to browser for so many good reasons. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Would the time you see be the same as GMT? That can be caused by turning on the privacy.resistFingerprinting preference in about:config, which disguises your true time zone by reporting to sites that you are in GMT.

Google may be using other ways to get the correct time directly from its own time server.

You can check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

Thanks for that thought. I did some snooping and Google does indeed use its own time servers (time.google.com). I never would have thought of that.

But...I changed Windows 10 to use the Google time server, and the same problem occurred. Gmail in Firefox still time stamps email 4 hours later than the real time, while Gmail in Chrome works fine.

If you have other thoughts, I'd welcome them. This just seems so odd.

That was it! That config setting was set to True. Changing it to False restored the correct time.

Many, many thanks for the suggestion.
