How do I fix this: Firefox doesn't refresh the page it displays when the app opens; it shows the page as it was when Firefox last quit.

As a workaround you can clear the disk cache when you close Firefox.

A few notes:

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an Allow exception you may want to keep

Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't want to set Firefox to clear history on quit as I depend on that feature for some of my work.

I will try clearing the Site Preferences; even though I'd rather not clear all my cookies that shouldn't be a real problem.

NOTE: there is something seriously lacking in your support searching capability. Searching in options for "Site Preferences" shows NOTHING. Searching the Firefox support website for "Site Preferences" shows NOTHING meaningful (though it does show a lot of completely unrelated posts). I had to resort to Google to find what should have been shown in the other searches!

Clearing Site Preferences won't have any effect for this issue and you will lose all exceptions like posted above. Firefox loads the pages from the disk cache and you will have to refresh the page manually if you do not want to clear the disk cache. An other option is to use a Private Browsing mode window.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but this has only been happening in recent months as far as I can remember. I thought that I had accidentally changed some option to make it act this way. Maybe it was some change in a relatively recent update? Admittedly, I could be misremembering, but I don't think so.

The solutions you offer make sense, and not saving browsing and download history is no problem, but I can't do without the search history and form auto-fill. Is there really no way to have FF reload/refresh pages on launch (and only on launch) without losing all that functionality? If so, there really needs to be an option to do that.
