I downloaded a changed file but got the original file
My correspondent made corrections to a file they had posted. I keep getting the 1st (uncorrected) file. Are my settings corrupted?
I made another attempt in Chrome after the correspondent assured me that the file had been corrected. The file I downloaded from Chrome is the new corrected file. I tried again in Firefox and it still downloads the 1st file even though that file no longer exists on the server.

Hi Rick, it shouldn't be possible to download a nonexistent file...
Are you accessing the new download using the drop-down from the Downloads arrow icon on the toolbar?
If the URL to the updated file is identical to the URL to the original file, one possibility is that Firefox is used a cached version of the file. To bypass the cache, try downloading in a private window, or of course you can clear the cache. (See: How to clear the Firefox cache)
Another possible issue, if the file name is identical, is Firefox not replacing the original file for some reason (for example, Windows permissions forbid it). If you set Firefox to ask you where you want to save downloads every time, you can change the file name when it is saved. This is in the Downloads section of the Options page.

Thank you. Yes our system forces the same filename even for a new file. I clicked for a download and the new file was saved with a (1) added. However the contents were identical.
I knew about the cache but didn't realize that manually selected downloads were cached. I find that behavior bizarre.
I'll try the setting to ask where before downloading although that is somewhat of a nuisance. But it would be an improvement over getting the same file over and over.
Hi Rick, you are correct, downloaded files are not saved in the cache itself. However, Firefox stores information about requests there, so it's worth a try bypassing it.
