I have used Firefox for years on various Mac computers. To my knowledge I have not logged in. Is that something I should be doing?

What is the trouble you're having with that site?

Logged in to what? Sync: Sync is an option that allows you to share your user profile data with another profile.

Support forums: Also an option. The forums are a place where you can get help when you need it, or to offer your help.

I do have a number of bookmarks that appear each time I boot up Firefox.

What do you mean by this? Are you saying the Bookmarks Manager is your home page? ==The page that shows up when you start Firefox==

Hello,

I mentioned that I have Foxfire bookmarks to note one way this browser works for me without having to login.

I have been having trouble with a web site (https://www.portablenorthpole.com/en/videos) but only when I use Firefox as my browser. When I use Safari, I do not have issues with Portable North Pole web site. Firefox is my desired browser. I got involved with a chat at the PNP web site and the person who was trying to help me suggested the following: "Since this is only happening on one browser, could you please log out of your account on Firefox, then log back in, just in case you are logged into a different account on that browser." I was not aware I have ever logged into Foxfire in the past. Thoughts?

I have no idea what the other meant by 'logging out' unless they were talking about logging out of the portablenorthpole site.

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What is the exact error messages?

I appreciate your help, but I believe I am not adequately explaining the situation. Given my inability to communicate on this issue my plan is to use Safari as my browser when accessing the PNP web site. Again, thank you for your assistance.

I think that the website technical support was asking you to log out of that website account when you used Firefox, not that you log out of Firefox itself.

Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should has some basic troubleshooting steps you should try in Firefox to get that website working again

As you might guess, I have logged in and out of the PNP web site numerous times trying to achieve what I am after, but those actions don't seem to have solved my issue. I did it again using Firefox just prior to sending this response.

Thanks ~

If you decide to try it in Firefox again:

If a site is generally known to work in Firefox, these are standard suggestions to try when it stops working normally:

Double-check content blockers: Firefox's Tracking Protection feature and extensions that counter ads and tracking may break websites that weren't built to operate normally without the blocked components.

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the address bar, near the lock icon? More info on managing the Tracking Protection feature in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix should provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page. There may or may not be a number on the icon indicating the number of blocked items; you may need to click the button to see what's going on and test whether you need to make an exception for this site.

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Testing in Firefox's Safe Mode: In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option/alt key when starting Firefox. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key instead of the option/alt key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Did you try the steps from the article I suggested to you?

I did try your steps. I sure could have made a mistake in trying to follow the steps. Assuming I clearing the cache and deleting the cookies, the issue remained.

Thank you for your help, but I am done trying to solve this issue when using Firefox.

Thanks again!
