Can you please explain what you mean by "signing into Firefox"? Firefox doesn't have a logout procedure unless you are using Firefox accounts to sync your data.

Do you mean that your computer is logging off? That is a setting of Windows, not Firefox

Sorry yes, I mean I'm signing into my Firefox account to sync data. One on of my laptops I only sign into my account once or twice per day, max, to sync the data. On another, I've been signing in every 30 minutes to 2 hours to accomplish the same thing. On both computers I sometimes use a VPN, so I can understand needing to login again after dropping out of the VPN. But with the one computer I'll simply switch to the other computer for a period of time and when I get back to the original, I'll need to login again to sync my data on that original computer. Sometimes, I'll be using Firefox on that computer and I'll need to again login as the yellow warning flag will come up in the right corner of the browser bar.

Your 'logged-in' status is stored in special cookies. If those cookies are removed, you are logged out.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

Tried that. Worked fine until just now when I was using Firefox doing some shopping. I input my password, got the email in Outlook that someone had signed in on the computer mentioned in the email (me). I went back to Firefox and it happened again. Within just a few seconds. It's not super frustrating, but frustrating nonetheless. Especially as I switched to Firefox because it is better than the competitors.

I called for more help.

Is the problem just with the sync login? What about other websites that you don't log out of, do they also have the problem?

Profile data can be removed or not recorded several ways;

• 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
• 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar, type about:preferences#privacy<enter>) See below
• 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
• 4) Mal-ware.

Tried all that, too. I've got no malware given all the Norton cleans I've done (several daily). I discontinued running Ccleaner, even though I had it set to not delete cookies or session information. I never run Firefox in Private Mode, as I have no need to do so. Wouldn't know how, anyway. Just now I opened Firefox and left it open while I went to cook breakfast. When I left it was fine, when I came back it was disconnected again. I'd not even touched the machine and no processes should have been running. This type of behavior has only started since the last Firefox update (a few days ago) around the same time as the Windows April update. Either way, it's not vital unless I change something, at which point I can log back in to sync. But, it's annoying that these things aren't sorted prior to an update.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

If a month was the default, then it should be set okay.

Is your IP address changing more frequently on one laptop than on the other? You could experiment with this setting:

• Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
• Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
• Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
• Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button, which you can click.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" piggybacks on your Windows/IE "LAN" setting. "Auto-detect" can lead to a flaky connection. You may want to try "No proxy".

I followed the above and set to "No proxy."

About 10 minutes later, while working in Firefox, I was disconnected.

Maybe it's my internet connection? As in it drops briefly enough for the computer to notice, but not me?

When you say you were disconnected, do you mean pages wouldn't load, or just Sync disconnected while browsing remained (as far as you could tell) normal?

I don't know whether Sync keeps a connection open at all times, or just reconnects at certain intervals. If it stays open, perhaps some background process that terminates long or inactive connections could explain the difference between the two systems. If it disconnects and reconnects, that probably isn't an issue.

Did you ever try the Safe Mode test?

Sorry again, by "disconnected" I mean that the Sync disconnected. It may not stay connected all the time, but it did so (seemingly) before the latest update to it and Windows. Back then, the only time Sync would disconnect (while the computer remained powered on) was if I switched to/from a VPN connection.

In checking the emails I get after every Sync login, the IP address has remained the same on every login.

I did try the Safe Mode test, and it worked fine for about an hour with no disconnection from Sync. I'll try it again and run for a longer period of time later today.

Okay. I'll close down this thread. I've just signed into sync five minutes ago. Have been on Firefox all five minutes, other than the odd switch to Outlook, and I've been disconnected from sync again. My IP has not changed. I've not done anything else but read some news on Firefox and do three searches for a recipe. It's clear this is a problem with this version/update/refresh of Firefox. Nothing seems to work. I'll deal with it until the next update/refresh only because it's still better than Chrome and/or Edge at syncing. Even if I have to sign in all the time, it's still better than those two. It's just annoying that it wasn't this way before the last update/refresh.
