I hate hate hate hate hate one-click seach and with the newest update, I can't figure out how to bring it back to the old way the search bar was. Is there a way to do this or do I have to change my browser? UI changes I can deal with but I hate one-click search.

No idea what 1 click search is.

If meaning just the Address Bar as Search then can Copy/Paste about:preferences#search in to the Address Bar then Enter and your right there to do as you want.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I want the search bar to have a drop down selection for search engines instead of instantly searching when you click on the icon. This used to work here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1048526 but no longer does in Quantum or whatever it's called.

OK back to the place please . Copy/Paste about:preferences#search in to the Address Bar then Enter and your right there. At One-Click Search Engines put mouse over and highlight the search engines and click for a tick mark next to all the Engines you wish to have the option to search from.

Restart Firefox and then put something in the Search Bar. Does the other Engines turn up as drop downs ? If not do the turn up when you put your mouse just to the right of the Search Icon a little icon should appear and you can change Engines that way.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

You're misunderstanding what I want. I don't want more search engines in the list, I want to have whatever search engine I choose to search with to stay selected until I decide to switch it with something else.

The current search bar looks like this:

You type in the search bar and then you click one of the search engines if you don't want the default. I don't want this. I dislike this.

What I want is this: https://i.imgur.com/HUboegD.png

If I select those search engines, it stays that way until I switch it again. Using the link I posted in my previous response, I was able to get this in Firefox until I updated to the new version today. I want this back.

browser.search.showOneOffButtons is gone and adding that pref back into Firefox 57 does nothing at all.

Been there, tried that - to get that OneOff feature restored.

So I can't get my old search back in Firefox?

Welp, this was the final push I needed to drop Firefox. Thanks, I guess?

I'm curious what you have been using since that OneOff pref disappeared in Firefox 43? If you were using Classic Theme Restorer to get the retro Search Bar, there is no way to get that back exactly as CTR had it.

If you are willing to work with userChrome.css and copy some CSS code, there may be a usable solution. Which I used in my post- Fx43 thru 56 installations. https://userstyles.org/styles/122214/firefox-search-bar-show-engine-names-firefox-43 How does that look to you?

Seems fine for me in Firefox 57, but I just pasted the code into my userChrome.css file a few minutes ago and haven't used it much to test it over time. Sonething that I have been thinking about doing for a few days.

I just sent you the code from that userstyle via PM, check your Inbox here (at the top on this page) for that PM. Unless you have Stylish installed you can't see the Code for that userstyle, so I copied it for you.

Here's some info about creating and using a userChrome.css file in Firefox. IMO, a must if you're gonna survive Quantum with your mind intact. https://www.userchrome.org/ More info for code here: https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxCSS/

I thought it was the OneOff thing that was my solution before but it must've been Classic Theme Restorer. I must've used the OneOff a while back and conflated that with CTR since it's been a long time since I've had to deal with this. Is that CSS solution simply a cosmetic change or does it actually change the functionality like I want? It seems like it's simply a cosmetic thing but I'd love to be wrong. I really think my best solution is to simply use a different browser at this point though. I'm tired of fighting against changes that don't benefit me.

For the location/address bar you can look at this pref.
