OS is Windows 7 HP. Running Firefox 54.0.1. After a refresh of FF I now get a pop-up when closing it calling for me to delete elements of my browsing session. We have two machines with the same OS and FF and have never seen this pop-up before. Both machines have Click n Clean which takes care of deleting history, etc., and shows as active in the extensions list. Note that the pop-up has the FF icon. I don't need this and have tried various menu settings but it remains. Would appreciate advice on how to cancel it, thanks in advance!

Would you take a look at this please :     /questions/1168902

Interesting that I'm not the only one...

Will you please, please disable that extension   'Click&Clean'  ? It solved the problem for the other   OP   !!!

Also in the middle of all this, I have an email from Mozilla awarding me the "2017 Support Forum Badge". Maybe that's also some type of scam- I didn't click on the link provided.

No, sounds legit. You probably get this badge because you have posted a certain amount. But who cares about a badge right now, eh   ? Let's see if that drop-down   (sorry : box)   will finally disappear and stay gone   !

i've never seen this pop up. but then again, it doesnt mean that its an invalid oddity.

have you double checked your options>privacy settings ?

i would try to cycle it to "remember history and everything else" and see how ff reacts to this.

what you can also do is to open task manager and when the pop up shows up, flip over to task manager and see what process is controlling the popup and ensure its a valid ff process..

Just finished a side-by-side comparison of our two computers, both running identical versions of FireFox on Windows 7 HP. I compared item-by-item under the "options" and "add-ons" headings in the help menu and both computers have the same choices selected. The pop-up box in question first began appearing upon closing FF after a refresh procedure to address sticky responses to mouse and keyboard inputs.

We have used FF on both machines for a long time and have never seen this pop-up before. It must somehow be related to the refresh, but how? If someone knows how to prevent it, I would be pleased to learn that info.

try running side by side the task managers, ie ctrl alt del keys.

That dropdown (withouth the Firefox icon) appears when you do this :

3-bar menu => Options => Privacy => Under 'History' : click   'clear your recent history'.

When you click   'Cancel'     does it still re-appear  ?

Not quite following your sequence of commands- menu>>options>>privacy brings me to the attached screen. As you can see, the choices you suggest aren't there.

'clear your recent history'   is highlighted  -   and preceeded by : 'You may want to'   .......

Change   'Use custom settings for history'   to :   'Remember history'  and it will show.

Try again   ?

(I should have realized that you would have set it to :  'Use custom settings for history'  -   sorry   ! )

i think i recall seeing a similar pop up when the browser was set to sync. but i am no longer positive. other factors could include browser hijacks or a software add-in.

so i think a re-install of the ff, might be a quicker way to resolve the issue.

if the other stable browser is identical, then you can uninstall the unstable ff and 100% all of its data. or you can export the data from the unstable ff and later import them, ie bookmarks passwords, etc..

so try a uninstall of the firefox. reboot. and reinstall it.

then test the new install before importing your data.

I recently went thru a ton of misery trying to refresh FF. It seems like, at this point, the only remaining symptom of that ordeal is the pop-up that I posted at the start of this thread. Rather than risk another debacle I guess I'll just live with it. Thanks for your input.

I totally understand,   so I will take a screenshot of that dropdown,   just to put your mind at ease.
It's just a hunch,   but I think that this dropdown that appeared after the refresh has something to do with the   'Click&Clean'   that you have installed.

Here's the dropdown that I get when I click on   'clear your recent history' :

Your screenshot seems to show the "Clear Recent History" dialog that you can open via "History -> Clear Recent History" (Shift + Ctrl + Delete). Only an extension can show this dialog when you close Firefox.

yep. but poster eludes to of looking into the add-on scenario's. so perhaps there is malware at hand, perhaps, the browser has a hijack.

sounds like you targeted the issue.

but i wonder why o.p. cites that both machines are identical and eludes to both ff 's being identical as well?

perhaps, the o.p. has something more to offer.

A thing called   'Sync',   maybe   ?

OP here, my thanks for the responses. I was unable to rejoin the discussion before now.

As mentioned, we have two machines running Windows 7HP and FF 54.0.1. All settings, options, extensions, add-ons, etc. are the same in both. Yesterday I compared all the settings again to be sure there were no differences between the two computers. The Click n Clean extension has been in use in both since we switched to FF from Chrome, a year or two ago, with no previous issues.

The pop-up I'm asking about started appearing right after refreshing FF in this computer. Notice that it shows the Mozilla icon in the upper left corner. We had never seen this box previously in either machine. The sync function is not used in either computer.

I have to conclude that the pop-up is somehow related to the refresh. As yet there don't seem to be any other visible changes. Is there a downside to just living with it?

@Slowpoke47 :

So, you do not have a Sync account.

Two important questions (or at least I think they are) :

This dropdown, does it appear on   both   devices   ? Did you do the   Refresh   on   both   devices   ?

Nope, refreshed one computer only, and that's the one that now has the pop-up.

Have also confirmed an oddity- when using mouse, cursor moves as expected, but occasionally clicking on any icon on a given page yields no response. Refreshing the page seems to straighten things out. Could this be related?

Phew,   huge relief   ! Even though I'm convinced that this has everything to do with the combination of these three : 1) Refresh, 2) You don't want to have History remembered, 3) You have the extension 'Click&Clean' installed.

Two more questions : 1) Do you still get that dropdown  ? 2) Have you clicked 'Cancel'  ?

  1. 1
  2. 2
  3. 3
