I ran my malware and nothing was found. There are so many sites to remove it but wonder if I may be opening myself up to a virus to get rid of dingit. Not sure which is safe. Is this common with Windows 10, had Vista on an old computer and never had a problem.

I went into my programs and of course there is nothing there with dingit. I did notice that 5/12/17 there is a program for office 365. I haven't been in there with this new computer so wonder why office 365 is in my programs since I don't have office in my computer. Never downloaded it or bought it. Just a thought.

The office 365 stuff is likely to be genuine. I try to avoid using Windows, but recently I think they have been trying to push use of Ofice365 and so it is probably some free trial or promotional material.

You do need to take care using removal guided on the internet some of them are decidedly dodgy and may try to scare you in to paying for services or even be scams and malware ridden sites.

Once you have one particular piece of adware or malware on the computer it may tend to proliferate and you get more. I suggest you run all the tools and scans listed in our general article

After that if you still have problems post screenshots as they may help give clues as to what specifically is affecting you.

Thanks for the information. I run my security every few days and never had anything in Malwarebytes. I did look into my history and there was nothing found ever. I didn't download anything except for the update on Firefox and I don't open any emails if i don't know who they're from. I don't click on popups either. I read through the page you sent and don't seem to have any of the things that would apply. I checked the Microsoft updates and had some last week. I have Norton, Malwarebytes, Ccleaner that I use. I don't think I can run any more security at the same time but not sure. I don't remember what site i was on when the Dingit came on but will notice if it happens again.

As to how something got on your computer in the first place,

It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.

You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.

You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.

From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.
