Almost all keyboard shortcuts don't work.

Postáilte

For the past month or so, all keyboard shortcuts that use the command key and a displayable character (letters, numbers, symbols) have not worked, unless they also use the control key (e.g. cmd+ctrl+v and cmd-f12 work fine, but cmd-t and cmd-1 don't).

I thought it must have been an extension messing me up, but I've tried resetting Firefox, and it didn't help. I've tried uninstalling Firefox and deleting my profile (the whole Firefox Application Support directory, in fact), but on re-installation, the problem continues. I've also tried disabling any software I'm aware of running that would intercept keystrokes.

I'm on a 2010 13-inch MacBook Pro, running MacOS 10.12 Sierra as of last night, but the problem has been going on for a while under El Capitan. It's also been going on for a few FF versions, but I don't remember how many, or exactly when this issue began.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Oh yes, I forgot to mention trying Firefox's Safe Mode. That didn't help. I've now also tried starting my computer in safe mode, but the problem still continued.

Also, since upgrading to Sierra, these keystrokes sometimes trigger an "uncaught exception raised" dialog. In the last one that came up, its "show details" panel read:

Exception Name: NSInternalInconsistencyException Description: Failed to get CharCodes from EventRef (-9870) User Info: (null)

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

I had done that before too, except I've been installing Firefox via a package manager (Homebrew). Now I've tried following your instructions (involving manually downloading from the web page you linked), but the problem persists.

Regarding running a registry scanner, I don't think registries are a thing on macOS. I'm not very familiar with Windows, so I'm not quite sure what a registry is, tbh.
