Can I please ask when just receiving your updates --> then why did all past Firefox screen indexes unfortunately not returning. I have saved few upon the Toolbar, but the remainder not. So can I personally please ask where I can found & include again my past Website pages (that I've included within Firefox over many previous months)? Thank you sincerely, Shawn Delmar

Hi Shawn, could you describe the missing information in more detail? For example:

  • history items that previously appeared on the History menu or in the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+h)
  • tiles you pinned on the new tab page
  • something else?

Sometimes during an update Firefox displays a bar indicating that it is running slowly, and you can speed it up by restoring default settings. If you click that button, the Refresh removes certain add-ons and clears various custom settings. Your old settings folder (profile folder) is moved to the desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder. Does that sound like something that might have happened?

A Refresh hides the Menu Bar and Bookmarks Toolbar, so you might want to first display those if you are used to seeing them. You can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

To turn on the Menu Bar, Bookmarks Toolbar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Not sure if I'm suggesting things that make a difference, please let me know.

Hello JScher2000,

Your current methods have also & unfortunately not presented my past Firefox listings that were already existing on diversified pages during many past months when always starting this (before your recent updates after taken place few weeks ago).

But can I personally please ask if you would possibly have my past directory listings & somewhere - where I could simply Copy & Paste my past information upon your website again? Thank you sincerely,

     Shawn Delmar

Hi Shawn, what do you mean by "past directory listings"? Please see the questions in my earlier reply.

Hello JSchur2000,

I wish for more emphasizing your past recommendations in more detail below.

- When reviewing the history items (including TODAY, LAST 7 DAYS, SEPTEMBER) are only & unfortunately listing websites that were being touched after September 29 2016 --> and with nothing else listed during other previous days or months. I have also reviewed other items listed within RECENTLY BOOKMARKED, or RECENT TAGS, MOST VISITED but unfortunately for additionally not including other websites that were previously being included within diversified Index pages that were being reviewed day-by-day during many previous months.

Theses areas (that I wish for being found somewhere), were also not being saved within the BOOKMARKS or other areas - that are still including other items that were earlier being created & saved (while including many past months).

The history items that I wish for being included, are unfortunately still not found. (These areas were broadly including diversified Website areas including: State of PA political sites, Law Enforcement sites, that I wish for still being found somewhere). I also know though, that all areas being missed were also & unfortunately not being saved within BOOKMARKED Bar or included elsewhere say within RECENT TAGS.

I also feel for not SPEEDing IT UP with this additional software, that supposedly would restore my default settings.

I also know that an OLD FIREFOX DATA folder upon my desktop was never being created nor found. I also know for bringing up the Menu bar & Bookmars Toolbar again, but they are still not including my diversified website page listings that I wish for still being included somewhere.

So I hope my details statements would be good with yourself, and please present additional questions or areas to review - if also interested.

Thank you sincerely,

       Shawn Delmar

If you started a Refresh but the Old Firefox Data folder did not appear on your desktop, your old settings folder might be in a different location. Let's take a look. Type or paste the following in the Start menu search box (or in the Windows Run dialog) and press Enter to run it:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

There should be at least one folder here containing your current settings. If there are additional folders, please check them by double-clicking into them, then into the bookmarkbackups folder, and look at what the dates are on the bookmark backup files. Does anything here look like it might have your missing data?

Thanks for presenting additional detail paths. I have simply copied & entered this within my RUN box: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

And with that additionally finding: ox5r0k5g.default So I then opened up that file & found the bookmarkbackups folder within. And this file is clearly including everything from many following dates including

bookmarks-2016-04-27_33_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-04-28_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-05-03_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-05-10_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-05-23_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-05-24_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-06-06_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-06-09_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-06-23_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-07-08_34_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-07-15_35_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-08-13_35_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-08-27_35_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-09-21_35_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bookmarks-2016-10-04_55_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I also opened up (2016-08-13) within a .txt appearance, and it broadly also includes my past history that I truly would like to review again~! I fully now think that my past setting were included differently within these files, so can I now please ask for how then can be opening up properly (or differently) thru Mozilla Firefox?

Thank you very much, - Shawn Delmar

Those backup files represent your bookmarks as of the date indicated in the file name. The fact that you have a 10/4 file suggests the list is in your "live" Firefox profile folder so should already appear on your Bookmarks Menu/Toolbar. Did you find only one profile folder or multiple folders?

I personally feel that I would like to go back upon a specified date (while possibly 08-27), and fully bring up of all past Index pages that were existing then when opening up Mozilla Firefox then. So can I please ask the proper path for fully doing that again please?

more options

Restoring the 8/27 bookmarks backup will only replace your current 55-or-so bookmarks with that set of 35 bookmarks. If you want to do that, please see this article:

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

If the 8/27 bookmark backup is not listed on the Restore menu, you will need to use Choose File to locate the file on disk wherever you found it before.

Hello,

Can I please ask, when you are also stating Bookmarks - would they already be marked with the "Bookmark this Page" icon while placing their individual icon within Mozilla's specified folder?
Because a lot of my past sites were not primarily bookmarked, but repetitively & daily reviewing them during many past weeks/months (while I assume staying within a history folder somewhere). I just kept their specified website for still rising everytime - when initially touching Mozilla Firefox (as they were broadly also including specified civil cases that I'd like to daily review them).

So can I please ask if you would hopefully know where my past website listings or Index pages were repetitively being saved within Firefox somewhere (and I hopefully could review & open them up again)?

Thank you sincerely,

   Shawn

Hi Shawn, it sounds like you are interesting in restoring your older history -- the list of sites that would appear on the History menu, the list that drops down from the address bar using the little triangle, etc.

Firefox doesn't have a built-in way to restore old history, but you can copy a backup of the places.sqlite database file in place of your current file to "roll back" to the date of the backup.

That raises the question: do you have a backup of that file anywhere?

Hello, The SHOW HISTORY is only including listings that were recently included after your last update, while not including anything previously. And when I review the OPEN MENU for including the past HISTORY icon, that will only bring up the HISTORY including:

Last 7 days September

        Downloads
        Tags
        All Bookmarks.

While that’s it, and not including anything before the month of September.

So can I personally please ask --> if my previous website listings would also be included within places.sqlite , then can I please ask for how they can be opened up while hopefully review internal listings within if also possible (as I wish to find my websites listings that were repetitively being included within the Month of August [or Months earlier] if also possible) ?

Thank you sincerely, Shawn

more options

Hi Shawn, do you have an older places.sqlite file you want to import?

Unfortunately there is no built-in method to merge current history with history in a backup file.

There are some add-ons and external tools to work with history, but I don't have much experience with them.

more options

Hello JSchur2000, I unfortunately was previously never aware of places.sqlite files that were also holding up my past history related with Firefox. I also know for previously & additionally backing up my overall Hard Drive to an external hard drive that I can broadly review, but I’m pretty sure that this listing was also included almost a year ago while that’s about it. But if reviewing that again, then I can simply COPY places.sqlite & then PASTE that on top of my current places.sqlite for also reviewing those listings while that’s it. So would that be Correct?

(But if I never even heard of places.sqlite files previously, then I wish that Mozilla Firefox could also & somehow include additional backup software – or something else for fully assisting customers ---? if truly possible.)

I have also included & installed both software that you just emphasized (Norwell & Nirsoft, but neither are including any previous websites listings whatsoever. So would you possibly have additional software(s) for checking? Thanks, Shawn W. Delmar

more options

I think the main use for Norwell or Nirsoft would be to examine any other places.sqlite files you are able to discover in a backup or elsewhere. Before replacing your current places.sqlite file, please make a backup of it in case you want to restore it.

Another possible source of older files is Windows restore points, A useful tool for searching is:

http://nicbedford.co.uk/software/systemrestoreexplorer/

more options

Within my specified file: places.sqlite are only being held within:

C:\Users\SWDelmar\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\enauvxg5.default-1475800397816

But if I copy an older version from my disconnected Hard Drive, (after Copy & Paste my new version elsewhere), then Paste my older version within this new location ---> would that also be ok for hopefully processing & reviewing the specified date listings instead without Interference somewhere?

more options

If you replace your current places.sqlite with an old one (while Firefox is not running), the next time you start Firefox you should have your bookmarks and history from that time. (Only from that time: there's no built-in way to merge different places.sqlite files.)

more options

My past location that I pasted within - was only including approximately 10 websites (& not 20 websites that I wish for rather found). But I guess for now excluding the remainder, & I still wish for saving more website locations ASAP (if this would unfortunately happen again). Thank you very much for your thorough! Better wishes,
