I was going through my library and found the option 'import and restore', I saw that there were things from yesterday and last week but I had no idea what. I was going through it and was wondering what is being restored there? Can it even be pages from years ago or is it only recent things?

Thanks in advance

Hi, bookmarks are backed up automatically on a regular basis, so that if you lose your bookmarks they can be restored from the latest backup (or any you choose from the list).

The Import function is for if you want to import bookmarks from another browser or an HTML file.

More: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

So it can also just restore bookmarks from years ago that you don't even have in your bookmark bar anymore?

Yes but only if they are in the Restore list.

If you have a lot of important bookmarks, it's worth backing them up manually every so often, because although the Restore function is good, it can occasionally go wrong, and it only takes a minute: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Backup, and save them to somewhere convenient on your computer - or for even greater security, plug a flashdrive in, and copy them to that as well. If you ever need to restore them: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

Not "years ago". A bookmark backup is made for every day that you use Firefox, and 14 backup files are retained.

I meant, that if you have bookmark a page (without putting it in your bookmark personal bar) in 2014 or 2015 if you can still access it today through the restoration option.

Otherwise said, does the restoration function of bookmarks contain pages you have bookmarked only recently (like a few days or weeks) or also from 1 or 2, 3 4 years ago (numbers are an example)

If you created and saved a separate file for that, possible.

I think the best way is to create a Word type file to store such bookmarks.

Ok, truth be said. It is not about my pc, but someone else's. According to that person, it is old bookmarks. It was first on another hard disk or SSD and it has been transferred.

One of those bookmarks contained an imgur link where the date of creation on the imgur link said march 2015. There were other links as well and containments of that I would like to keep private.

This person said most of those bookmark links were old ones, being older then 1 or 2 years.

I found them by clicking on 'restoration'. I just want to know if those are indeed old, or if there is only very recent restored bookmarks.

If the file can be accessed, you can try.

Remember that links that old may have been changed or shut down.

yeah, i have found the restoration stuff myself and confronted this person about it. It was claimed by this person that it is indeed old.

All I did was go to library, wanted to look what the import and save stuff was all about and saw the restauration list with something with indeed like 14 items containing dates (like monday blabla of month blabla of year blabla). This person said the links in question were old ones. They were deleted from the pc (after quite some looking) being in a mozilla file I think with the same names like being showed in the restore list.

All I want to know if this person was full of shit, because I'd like to not get taken adventage of again.

The restore stuff this person explained to me as well. Saying that on day 1 (for example) you create two bookmarks, then a backup is being made of those bookmarks automatically by Firefox. On day 3 you add one more website and when there is a new backup, this backup contains the three bookmarks. If you don't add any bookmarks for the next 50 days, the backup remains the same containing the bookmarks you've added on day one and three.

The Bookmarks Manager does work like that. But you are talking about old files.

I've been talking about old bookmarks, sorry if I caused misunderstanding. It were all 'marked pages'. Once you click on them, you get lead to the webpage.
