Since the lastest update, I have not been able to correctly download .gif files. The resulting download of the .gif file is corrupted. HELP

more options

I can't even open the downloaded .gif files on my computer. Not able to upload them to image sharing web sites: because they state the file is corrupted. This has been happening since the middle of the summer 2015 when firefox did an software update. .gif files can only be viewed by internet explorer because that is the coding of the file. Before that summer update, there was no problem and then the next day, I could not view .gif files downloaded with the new version. I even left firefox. Had to completely uninstall it and download another browser, which I don't like to continue my work with .gif files. I have redownloaded firefox and I want to use my favorite browser.

How do I fix this issue with .gif files? My OS is Windows 8.1 and don't tell me to upgrade to OS 10. Will not do it. I've heard too many problems with image software not working properly: even windows error of OS Not Found. So, not going there, don't suggest it.

I agree with you about Windows 10. Lots of complaints on this forum.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

When attempting to upload the corrupted downloaded through firefox .gif file here, I get the error Error Uploading Image. Invalid or No Image Received.

So, this forum can't even upload the .gif file Firefox corrupted. And no image share web sites like photobuchet will upload it either. Photobucket comes right out and states the .gif file is corrupted.

I suppose I could use another browser to actually download necessary .gif files.. but I don't want to do that. Opera and Internet Explorer download them without issues. And since Opera and Internet Explorer can download .gif files without corrupting them, the problem is with Firefox.

I can upload .gif files I create through Firefox to photobucket without an issue.

Yet, the SAME .gif file wihch is now on photobucket: I CAN NOT Download with Firefox. Firefox appears to be hyjacking .gif files, wanting full control of all images downloaded. And since .gif files Must Be Viewed and Opened By Internet Explorer because of .gif file coding for animation to function, Firefox is ruining .gif files downloaded through it because Firefox has Control Issues.

Okay, my rant is over.

Please help.

Experiement. Here is the .gif file I created for a digital Valentine Day Party online for people to request as a signature. It's called a Siggy.

This is the file I recently uploaded to photobucket through firefox (my first since re downloading the browser), and yet I can't download the same .gif file from photobucket using Firefox.

If you click on the image, you will see the animation. This is uploaded directly from my external T1 hard drive where I store the images I create.

Another .gif file uploaded here directly through Firefox. So, uploading is Not the Issue. Downloading .gif files using Firefox is the issue.

This might have come from Opera, the browser I downloaded AFTER I had to uninstall Firefox and find another browser to use because IE is the browser to use to dlownload other browsers. lol. I had added their version of adblock to stop advertisements from slowing down my computer while browsing. Okay, I'll do this for you.

Did you check the content of the user.js file in a text editor or do you still have the file in the recycle bin?

more options

I shred the contents of the recycle bin.

Issue is NOT solved. I can download .gif files which I create through firefox, however.. I can NOT download .gif and .png files other create for me.

I posted a new question with this issue because it is not solved and this question has been marked as solved.

What security software do you have?

Did you check that your security software isn't blocking animated GIF files and possibly only passes the first frame?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

more options

The first frame doesn't even pass through.

I could see the possibility the issue is with Windows, however. that is ruled out by the fact I can download all image files sucessfully with IE and Opera. The problem is not my computer. It's Firefox.

more options

And now, BOTH .gif and .png files are being corrupted when using Firefox to download them.

This is very frustrating.

Please Help.

I have AVG. AVG is active when I use IE and it is also active with I use Opera and Firefox.

I am experiencing no problems with IE and Opera, so why would AVG contribute to Firefox having issues?

Exactly what am I suppose to be doing when my computer is in Safe Mode?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

You disable third-party (security) software when you boot the computer in Safe mode. If your security software is causing this problem then it should work. Firefox wouldn't corrupt downloaded files unless other software is interfering.

Can you open the files in a tab?

Yes, the problem is still there.

What I don't understand is why I'm checking my computer, when downloading .gif files WORKS with no problem with internet explorer and opera browsers. Since it works with those 2 browsers, logically, the issue is with firefox.
