Did a system restore and had to download firefox again to get it to work but now have lost all book marks, any way to get them back?
Did a system restore to see if that would fix the issue with signing in to Xbox games. It fixed that problem but firefox would not work. So i downloaded it again but now lost all bookmarks. Is there any way to get them back?

How far back did you restore to?
Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because only white-listed files are restored, so always be cautious with using System Restore.
- You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files including profiles.ini
- You may need to reinstall affected software
You should always be very cautious then you decide to do a System Restore and backup data that could possibly be affected by the restore.
It is possible that the profiles.ini got restored to a previous version that didn't include your current Firefox profile folder. You can check if there are multiple profiles. You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Go up one level to the Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ folder.
resored back to 11/1
Sorry, left out the t in restored. Should tell you I don't know much about computers so the post from cor-el doesn't help help much. So if it isn't a simple fix I'm done. If it helps I have windows 8.1.
Hi Chas, you are about to go on a file hunt, hopefully not a wild goose chase. Just take it step by step.
Start by opening your current Firefox settings folder, also known as a profile folder. Here's how:
Call up the support information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, called Basic Information, find and click the "Show Folder" button.
Firefox should open a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer. This is our base folder and we're going to check two things.
But first, make a note of the name of the folder, it's semi-random with a string of nonsense followed by a name and possible a long string of numbers.
(1) Do you have any useful bookmark backups in this profile?
Scroll down and look for a folder named bookmarkbackups and click into it. Firefox creates automatic backups with dates in the file names.
Question: Can you find any backup files from before "the incident" in this folder?
If so, let us know and stand by for steps to restore a bookmark backup.
If not, continue with the next step:
(2) Do you have any other profile folders?
Click back up to the base folder you started from. On Windows 7, you can do that either by clicking the back arrow button next to the Windows Explorer address bar, or by clicking that semi-random folder name in the address bar. Not sure about Windows 8.1.
Next, click up one more level to the Profiles folder. You should see the semi-randomly-named base folder we started in.
Question: Are there other folders here?
This is what cor-el was referring to, the possibility that your previous profile folder still exists but Firefox lost track of it.
If you see other folders, click into them and check their bookmarkbackups folders for recent backups. Can you find one that looks useful?
If you find a promising file, let us know, and stand by for next steps.
I think I may have found what your talking about. There are 15 Book mark dates starting from 9/1 to 11/9. I did the restore on the 11/10
Okay, that's good news.
If the backups are in your current profile:
You can use the Restore feature to select the date you want to restore. Please be aware that this is a total replacement, so any new bookmarks you added in the past couple days will be wiped out. If you need to preserve new bookmarks, use the optional steps:
- (Optional) Export recently-added bookmarks: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks
- Restore your older backup as described in: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
- (Optional) Import the recently-added bookmarks: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file
- (Optional) Reorganize the imported bookmarks into logical locations (they might be in an Imported Bookmarks folder on the menu or in Unsorted bookmarks)
If the backups were in a different profile:
Start by copying a couple of the most promising looking backups to a convenient location such as the Windows Desktop or your Documents folder. Then use the procedure above for "current profile" except instead of using a date on the list, use Choose file and point Firefox to the convenient location where it can find the file you want to try.

I am not seeing the restore feature.
I am not seeing the restore feature.
Hmm, when you are in the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b), do you have the "Import and Backup" menu? Restore should be on that menu.
Note that the name of the backups in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (bookmarks, folders, separators).
Where did you find the backups? Is that in the current profile folder or in another profile folder?
