hi this might be a guess into the blue, but since we have recently seen a lot of reports of startup crashes caused by external software. it might be worth to try the following: go into your system's control panel and remove any software labelled "Freecorder" or similar or by the publisher "Applian Technologies" or any other toolbars.

Try to start Firefox with the about:blank page by creating a copy of the current Firefox desktop shortcut. Add a space and -url "about:blank" to the target field in the Properties.

You can set the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes pref to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first start after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

That way you see if the previous session didn't close properly or crashed and will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.

If you can't start Firefox then you can add this line to the prefs.js file to prevent Firefox from restoring the previous session automatically.

Thank you for the crash report IDs. I checked the last three and they do match the problem philipp mentioned originally, so here is a little more information on that.

If you open the crash reports and click the "Modules" tab, you'll see that the first on the list in each case is "FLVSrvLib.dll". That module installs with various Applian Technologies programs including Freecorder and Replay Media Catcher.

The crash seems to have started after users with one of those programs installed a recent latest update to their Norton security software.

Could you recheck on whether you have either of those programs and it isn't essential, try uninstalling it and then restarting Windows to ensure that none of its components are left running.

Will Firefox start normally after that?

If you prefer not to uninstall the program, a few other users said using the msconfig program to prevent FlvSrvc.exe from running at startup bypassed the problem. See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-configuration

Verified Applian FlvSrvc startup, killed with Taskman, & FFox arose from the dead !! How someone ever connected these things with Norton is wondrous-marvelous, but that's why they pay you the big bucks eh?
