Firefox Constantly Crashing since 33.0.3 Update

Postáilte

I know there is another post about this, but the user didn't give too much information, and the "solution" does nothing to help.

I had bunch of tabs open, which I normally do on Firefox without issue, and Firefox automatically updated itself. Shortly after, Firefox crashed while I was trying to access another web page.

Since then, it will constantly crash. If I restart and restore all my tabs, it will normally crash as soon as I try to use a new tab or type in my old ones. If I leave it alone for a while it seems to work for a matter of minutes before crashing again.

I even reset Firefox, but that did nothing for me. It just seems like it wants to crash no matter what I try.

I had just put Firefox as my default web browser (as I had it this way before, but switched to Chrome when too many problems were occurring from a previous update). I had to go right back to Chrome. While I like to keep all my browsers updated, this is simply ridiculous. I have never crashed so many times from doing what a browser is meant to do.

Anyway I can downgrade back to just version 33.0.0 until another version comes out?

This seems to be working so far, poked around a couple websites without issue. Took some time away, came back and poked some more. Finally restarted from safe mode, and poked around again. Seems okay now.

But why would this suddenly become an issue? I have always preferred Firefox, but I have never had an issue this extreme appear.

The new 33.1 update has seemingly fixed the issue. I turned hardware acceleration back on and have been messing about without issue.

Hopefully all remains calm in this version...

Thanks for the help.

Worked for a few days, now this issue has appeared again. Went to turn off hardware acceleration, but it was already turned off...

I had turned hardware acceleration back on, but that didn't help.

I was not able to get safe mode to start as it would crash before I could do anything in safe mode.

I finally was able to turn off hardware acceleration (while not in safe mode). I could then use safe mode. But this has not remedied the problem, although it doesn't immediately crash, it just waits until I'm trying to access a new website or webpage.

I should also mention that I went ahead and "upgraded" to 31.1.1, which had no effect.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the <Shift(Mac Options)> key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

As stated before, yes.

I appreciate the help but do you have any viable solutions that don't involve starting Firefox in safe mode?

Otherwise, I think I'm going to seek out an older version of Firefox to use until a few updates have passed.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

If the above does not help; In Safe Mode Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. That's all well and good, but you continue to tell me try the same thing and I arrive at the same result...

No security programs are enabled, so no worries there.

I take care of all malware and keep a close eye on such things.

That's all well and good, but you continue to tell me try the same thing and I arrive at the same result... No security programs are enabled, so no worries there. I take care of all malware and keep a close eye on such things. Your crash reports shows OutOfMemory, but it looks okay to me.

The reports also flagged;

nvwgf2um.dll = NVIDIA D3D10 drivers from NVIDIA Corporation.

icudt52.dll = International Components for Unicode

Perform a System File Check to fix the corrupted system files http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

See if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

First off, thanks the continued help. I may come off a bit upset at you, but I am really just upset that my favorite web browser keeps going out of commission.

I do upgrade the NVIDIA drivers as soon as an official build is ready. The last one was possibly a week ago or so. However, the problems occurring on Firefox happened before the update as well.

I went ahead and did a scan in an elevated command prompt to verify if any system files were corrupted. The scan completed and showed no sign of "integrity violations".

At the moment I am communication solely through Chrome, however, I do have Waterfox if that will be of any use...

Because you still have problems with Firefox in safe mode, I think the problem is with something in the computer. Check that everything is updated. Even if you are sure it is.

Have you checked for mal-ware?

I'm going to call in the big guys to help out.

I started a bug just in case that there is no malware found: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1101264

I have also contacted the crashkill team and someone is looking into it as well. Thank you for your patience and for helping eliminate what it is not.

I'm having the same problem. Turned off hardware acceleration and will see what happens now, but since the 33 update firefox has continually crashed on me. I've used this browser for years, with a brief period of 3 months when I used pale moon because of the new ff changes in 29, but never had this problem until 33. There's no particular thing/site/command that causes the crash, it just happens, and when it does, I lose everything, which usually consists of allot of text I've been typing for an hour. That is a bummer, and I'm ready to pull my hair out!

@FredMcD - Just got some new NVIDIA drivers last night. However, Firefox already seemed a bit better by not crashing immediately, instead it would take some time with perusing webpages and opening more tabs...

No malware is present at this time.

@guigs2 - Thank you. This has been a huge pain for me and I hope it can be addressed and fixed.

Beyond all that, safe mode works find when hardware acceleration is off (as of now...).

HI Heatshiver, There is a follow up request on the bug that was filled on this OOM crash. Would it be possible to share a memory report from a random session from your Firefox installation?

This can be done from a new profile to make sure no personal data is shown, however a memory report does show what tabs are open.

  1. If you open the browser to this url [about:memory]
  2. Browse for at 30 secs
  3. Under "Save Memory Reports" check the 'anonymize' check box
  4. Then click on "Measure and save"

It might be difficult to share this on the forum, however it is possible to upload it to the bug. My email is rmcguigan@mozilla.com if you would like me to do this for you as well.

Bug url for convenience Also thank you kindly for your help in this investigation.

I will do everything, but I'm super busy with work at the moment, and using FF to do this work, so I can't afford to stop and do this all right now. I will though. It has crashed like 6 times in the last few hours. It seems to be every time I go into yahoo mail and give a command like opening an email, or searching my email. It has crashed at other times as well, but I can make it crash by being inside of yahoo mail. I rarely have over 4 tabs open at any one time.
