Hi there. I'm having real problems with my firefox. I'd normally just struggle along but it has become pretty unusable, and firefox is my favorite browser i don't want to switch. I'm running OS 10.8.3. Recently, Approx 2-3 weeks, firefox has stopped loading images. I noticed this first in google maps where all the information boxes that float on top of the main map would momentarily appear and then white out. they will occasionally appear again when scrolled over. This has now started to also happen in e-bay bid windows, guardian editorially content, and even data entry boxes (see image of Firefox sign-in) I have had a look at the forums and taken the following steps, none of which have worked: Check that images are not blocked by following the "more information"> media route (incidentally, even this appears blocked out), I've also done a reset of firefox, and a de-install re-install.. So now i'm pretty much flummoxed. Even the box that i'm typing this is whites out as it fills up with content and needs a new page! Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks henry (And i can't work out how to add the screenshots so that you can see the problem

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.

Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images

  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block images and other content.

Hi Cor-el. Thanks for responding. I'm running on a mac so don't have the toolsoption, i have to access the media blocking page a different route, which I've already tried as described above. That also means that the about:config is no good for me either, would you know what the mac equivalent would be? I don't have the adblock extension, to teh best of my knowledge, but would you know where i would check that (on a mac) Thanks Henry

Maybe check for issues with background images:

Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.
