unauthorised upgrade

so when I went onto Thunderbird I saw it all changed and been upgraded to version 115.3.1 (32-bit) supernova without my permission.

As you never had my permission i demand that you revert me back within the next 24 hrs or i report you as any upgrades MUST get users permission first.

Thunderbird does offer the option to not automatically upgrade. This lets the user make that decision.

never such an option i opened up thunderbird and it had changed, so my 24 hrs deadline will still stand

Well, just for your future reference, there is an option in settings, general to not auto update. The clock is apparently ticking until 1:31 pm Tuesday...

yes i checked and mine is set to ask me and not to auto renew so unless people want Mozilla and all their products banned in the UK then they need to fix this

I am wondering about this too. On one of the machines I have, I thought that I had set it to only notify me, not upgrade automatically, but I'm not 100% certain, and it did regrade (I refuse to call it an upgrade!) to 115.3 without asking me. I double-checked a much more critical machine and it is still at 102 with auto turned off, so on that machine it's still safe. But I'm a little worried. I wonder if the push is a bit too hard.

mine is set to notify me, which it never did so is an unauthorized upgrade which under UK and even USA laws they must revert it back.

so someone needs to get this sorted or they will be banned in the UK

And you have the authority to ban Thunderbird distribution in the UK? I will follow this thread with interest.

Thunderbird is actually not a Mozilla product as Mozilla has been generous in providing a place for Thunderbird users to get support (since 2014 I think?) as the Thunderbird community used to have their own Thunderbird support forum using GetSatisifaction before as it was mainly at the independent forums.mozillaZine.org forums before that.

Some users have security/antivirus suites that apply updates no matter what is set in TB Settings. Norton Software Updater is one example that automatically updates TB and many other apps.

NO but as i have auto update disabled, so should be notified then UK authorities have the power to ban any company/service

Well, the 24 hours have passed. I will be curious to see how you tell people that you had the option to not upgrade, and didn't set it, and were upgraded and, for your inattention, a company would be denied distributing software in the UK. You have a huge cliff to climb and I have these doubts. You might use your time more effectively by learning the features of 115. I find this whole episode humorous.

from CEOemail

Mozilla (Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Fire fox, Mozilla Thunder Bird)

listed as Mozilla Executive Chairwoman Email address - Ms M Baker

so yes it is Mozilla owned and managed as who do you think hosts it.
