I keep getting notifications asking me to update firefox every couple of days. I download the update, it goes smoothly, the notification disappears, but it comes back in a day or two. I also have my setting to supposedly do updates automatically, but that doesn't seem to be working. Please help!

I use google as my default firefox home page on my HP laptop. recently a second tab opens at the same time. "how to set the home page" --I've tried closing it and restarting the laptop, but it continues to pop up every time I open firefox as a 2nd tab. I am/was happy with my homepage opening to google. How can I get rid of this second tab. thanks

I've been using Firefox for about six months. I'm a MacBook user with the most recent version of Sonoma installed. After a month or so of using Firefox it starts crashing and freezing. Sometimes I can't restart it for several minutes. Whenever this happens, I refresh it. I've refreshed it about twice. I've re-installed it twice too, but it keeps happening. Most settings are default, but I wanted to include the settings in case this could be the problem: - I've turned off Firefox home content - I've turned off all passwords and autofill features - Never Remember History - Do Not Track and Tell Websites not to share/sell my data are turned on - I left the standard-level security settings as is

I have one extension installed.

The only other browser I have installed is Safari and I am not having these issues. I should add that I don't receive any error messages when this happens, it just freezes. The most recent issue is that I was clicking on buttons on a website and it wasn't working, but when I started using the Safari browser (which also set to private mode) it worked fine.

When it works I love Firefox and would like to keep using it. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this.

Thru Firefox, I use Tineye to find related photos - I use it all the time, it's been great - I always use a VPN and have never had problems until now (as of yesterday). Now it won't search, a verify you're human window comes up, and I have to keep clicking squares, which I do - but then it says to allow cookies and start over. Well I don't want to allow cookies (I assume it's one of the options I have thru Firefox to block cookies), and I can't find where to allow cookies even if I did (I went to Firefox preferences etc) and I don't want to disable my VPN. Maybe I should mention that I just added or started a Mozilla account, as I have had immense trouble with my aol emails, and am trying to move everything over to a gmail account. My sign in to Firefox was the aol email, and I had to (try, I thought I did it) add another account, which I think I did successfully. So it was right after that, that all this started. Help please! I have Windows 11 and Firefox 124.0.2. Firefox keeps asking to reinstall. I think it is because I keep getting the message that it fails to check for updates. I don't know if I have installed the Microsoft Firefox or the direct Mozilla Firefox downloaded. Maybe that is the problem, but I am not tech savvy. I have used Firefox for many years and like it. I am also too old (83) to deal with these problems. Help!

something apparently got corrupted in firefox.. i tried running update and i keep getting failed to update.. i have refreshed.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled ...nothing. i am sure there is a folder or file somewhere that is corrupted and i cannnot find it. because even when i uninstall and reinstall fresh. all my bookmarks are there .. how to i start a TRUE NEW install??

I have been using Firefox as my primary browser for a very long time. Now, every time I start Firefox, I get a message that the update failed, and that I should manually download the update file and run it. I do so, the update appears to work, and Firefox behaves, until I stop it and restart again. Then I get the same message. I looked online - it appears that others have had this problem, but no clear solution. I am not willing to use Edge, but am beginning to wonder if it is time to leave Firefox. WIndows 11 64, AMD processor, 64 GB ram. Connected via ethernet and fiber. NordVPN, and Bitdefender (neither of which has produced any error messages).

About a week ago I started getting these update error messages stating "Update available - Firefox couldn't update automatically. Download the new version". I've also tried clicking "Learn more" on the error message but it's a dead link. Going into the settings for updates I am set to auto update, but when I manually check for updates it says "Failed to check for updates".

The help article on this issue simply tells you to download and manually reinstall Firefox, but I'm having to do this nearly every day. I work in IT myself so I know a "bandaid" workaround when I see one. Is there a solution to this issue?

I have Firefox 124.0.2 running on Windows 11. For some reason, I can't update Firefox. When I manually download the update file, it appears to run Ok, but the version doesn't change. If I go to settings and click on "Check for Updates" is comes back and says Failed to Check for Updates. How do I fix this?

Originally reported on April 11th /questions/1444593: I have Windows 11 and the Firefox 124.0.2 browser. I cannot update to the latest version of Firefox. I receive an error message "Failed to update". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the browser, ran the install utility selecting update, nothing seems to work. Please help

This has been going on for over a week. I have downloaded and applied the installation program multiple times (>3). The problem persists. What is going on, and how do I fix it? Thanks

I have been getting the "new version available, download now nag for over 2 weeks, and I have the latest version. Still get this issue repeatedly every day. Starting to become an every hour nag to update and install latest version of Firefox. Refuse to use Microsoft Edge or Chrome, and will switch off Firefox too if not rectified.

I keep getting this message that pops up in a private window to restart to keep using firefox. Everytime I click restart Firefox, it closes my tabs and opens them again. However, 5 minutes later the window pops up again. Even after repeated attempts of updating, even doing a full restart on the computer, Firefox continues to send this window to me. The private window in the bar says about:restartrequired.

I've tried uninstalling Firefox with a fresh install as well as doing a Refresh of Firefox. Neither seem to solve this problem.

My Browser keeps on telling me there is an update... I've updated, reinstalled the latest version and it still keeps giving a pop-up saying there is an update...

How do I get rid of these pop-ups???

Firefox keeps reminding me that updates are available. I download and it says its installing but it doesn't seem to update. I have tried closing Firefox before running the installation but it makes no difference. I am on 125.02 at the moment.

After installing Thunderbird i had first download problems for new Firefox Versions. I tested around, installed everything new and found the solution. Somehow the Maintenance Service didn`t work properly on my machine and after deinstalling and restarting i can update firefox again. Problem remains: When trying to install Offline Languages , see picture, i get the message that it does not work. I tried everything possible, including reinstalling and deleting all old profiles (was a lot of work). Any ideas?

I've been using the same firefox (installed every update) for over 10 years now and a lot of bookmarks have been accumulated. They are from different sources for different reasons/subjects/interests etc... I think when I reached ~430.000 or something like that it really slowed firefox down in a way that even clicking on a folder in the "bookmark symbol bar" (the one underneath the URL address fiel) takes 2-3 sec to open up and show the containing bookmarks. In the bm-manager going from one folder to another also takes a few seconds. I've now deleted about 40.000 but no change it's still lagging. and deleting 1000 takes about 1h.

I've looked but so far I couldn't find another tool or a better way to manage all these URLs WITH their title.

I still want to keep them, but managing them has become so slow and tedious. So if you have any suggestions especially for other tools to manage them....

I also think the possibility to export only a part of them (selected ones, or specific folders) would be helpful; maybe also a tool to clean up the database? (like defrag did for harddrives?). or split it to differnt files? I don't know.

I know 400.000 bookmarks are extreme... but well....

I am using theme called WhiteSur to imitate Safari, as that is the browser layout I prefer. However, this doesn't change the position of the close tab button and leaves it on the right hand side. I found a way to change it, using the code .tabbrowser-tab .tab-close-button {

} Unfortunately, this doesn't change based on the size of the tab, so if I set it to a size that is good for only having 1 tab, it will look bad or be off the screen for the other amounts of tabs. Is there a way to detect the width of the tab or the amount of tabs open and dynamically set the margins based off of this? So I could set it as (width-of-tab)-x and that would always keep the close tab button in the same spot, regardless of tab size. Thanks!
