In my company's internet it is problematic to use https. However firefox always defaults to https connections (e.g. when making a google search from the search toolbar, or when typing an address bar starting with "www"); therefore always bringing up an "This Connection is Untrusted" alert page and making me have to manually go to the address bar and changing the "https" to "http". In Google Chrome and Internet Explorer it is very easy to set the browser to use http instead of https. However, I can't seem to find this option in firefox. Any ideas?

There is very common in the section of the plugins, in the AddOn menu, the message that the java plugin is vulnerable an it is to be used with caution. Now in 8.0.25 again. What does it means? Is there or will be there a solution for that? Is NoScript in this case useful, or another security option?

Thanks!

I very specifically did not choose for Firefox to clear my history in my privacy preferences folder, but this morning when I opened Firefox, all my history, cache and cookies were gone, and the choice to have Firefox clear my history in privacy preferences was checked. I don't know what caused this - no recent updates, etc. - and, worse, don't know how to resurrect all this information. I opened a backup version of Firefox, but it had no history on it either. How can I get this history back, and how can I keep Firefox from mysteriously deleting it all again? I'm a Mac user. Thanks.

As I have written many times before .... having a web browser automatically go to a website based on a word typed in the URL BAR is a security nightmare. There is no way to tell what asinine site you will end up on if you miss spell a word.

I have repeatedly removed the ability to search from the URL BAR from my web browser and FF keeps putting it back. Dammit!! My browser, my choice. Leave it alone!

Now the ability to disable it is gone.

Standard answer given: <quote>

I don't know what version you were using before, but web searching from the address bar goes back many, many years. And the way to disconnect web search from the address bar remains exactly the same:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste keyw and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the keyword.enabled preference to switch the value from true to false

Now the explanatory line on the drop-down is relatively new; it probably dates back to Firefox 43. That can be hidden but not disabled. And there's really no need to disable it, it just tells you what will happen if you submit the current contents of the address bar.

<end quote> It is set to false. If a misspelled word is typed in the url bar it goes to a website.

browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete is not an option anymore - it has been removed.

If I type localhst instead of local host i end up on a Chinese site or a site selling me domains. If FF cant find a domain of the name given - say so - don't send me somewhere dangerous or unknown.

Not really a problem, as such.. but something that is a little annoying.

The Override Auto Cache Management option doesn't seem to work properly, unless what is happening SHOULD be happening?

Basically, by default it is set to 75Mb.. I'll set it to around 350-400Mb. However, at random intervals, Firefox will default the settings back to 75Mb, out of the blue. No warning or anything.

Why does is keep defaulting back to 75Mb? I have also changed the option using About:Config with the 'browser.cache.disk.capacity' option. but it still defaults back to 75Mb.

Is there anything I could be doing wrong? Another setting that needs to be changed? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

This has been asked before with no satisfactory solution. The last thread was closed with the (IMHO) flippant comment that one should just close all your tabs and then close the browser. Well thats just all so useful!

So.. I am running nightly 24a and this "problem" still exists. Namely: one uses the clear browsing history function yet the list of recently closed tabs and windows remain. THIS IS A FAIL. I can understand a warning might be appropriate (with option to turn off) that clearing history will also clear the recently closed lists (or even make it an extra check box). But hello? how many people want to clear the history and *not* clear the recently closed lists too?

If I am mistaken and there is now some ->easy<- way to do this, please reply. And by easy, I mean not mucking about in about:config to change settings and then put them back.

Thanks!

I have no security on my computer, my time/date is synchronized and this just started about two days ago.

Every site pops up with this as the description in details:

The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.

(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

When I try to add the site as an exception it either doesn't work, doesn't accept it for other pages, and when it does let me go on the entire page is loaded wrong and useless (like facebook and youtube). Can someone at least point me in the right direction to solve this? I've tried having Firefox not ask for permission but the message still pops up. I've tried resetting it with nothing done, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox.
