Firefox v131.0.3 on Linux Mint 21.3 boots with only blue lines of text and does not boot graphically anymore

I have been using Linux Mint 21+ since May of 2023. At that time I set all the Firefox preferences settings to what I've always set them to in the past, and have run Firefox with them ever since then. Now, about 3-4 weeks ago, I started Firefox and it came up with ONLY blue lines of text (not graphically). My Firefox homepage is "isp.netscape.com". I've waited until now to report the problem, since I was hoping that later Firefox updates would fix itself, but this did not occur with the 3-5 Firefox recent updates.

Originally, I posted the problem to the Linux Mint forums with the following title under SOFTWARE & APPLICATIONS: Firefox browser no longer graphical but only lines of blue text

Somebody there advised me to start Firefox in safe mode, which I did with this command in the terminal: firefox -safe-mode

and to my surprise, Firefox then came up graphically once again. However, going through the Firefox preferences and setting them one at a time, I came to what is causing the problem. Setting PRIVACY & SECURITY -> BROWSER PRIVACY -> HISTORY: "Remember History" to "Never Remember History" forces Firefox to reboot and when it comes up it came up with only blue lines of text, and not graphically.

One responder to my post on Linux Mint forums stated that it was also a problem with her on Windows 11. So, this is not a Linux Mint, or Windows 11 issue, but a Firefox issue. Mozilla made some change to Firefox back 4-5 weeks now that all of a sudden made Firefox come up in blue lines of text, and I changed nothing with Firefox since started with Linux Mint 21.3 1.5 years ago. I will add though, that ONLY my Firefox homepage (listed above) is the only page that is affected by this, every other website I visit comes up graphically.

What's UP?

Ron

When I attempt to use Firefox autofill for address/credit card/etc, Linux will prompt for Root password. After entering root password, everything freezes. I have no access to mouse or keyboard and my entire OS become unresponsive. Besides the hangup, my firefox tabs randomly crash as well with the following bug tag: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/3020d645-af46-4821-bbfc-e4d680250213. I don't know if the two are related, but both eventually lead my my OS freezing with only hard power down. Every time I try to use autofill, it freezes my OS. I can keep replicating the issue.

I have the latest Firefox installed on Linux Mint. But in Firefox privacy settings there is no longer a way to choose browsers. It just says "Firefox is currently your default browser". But every time I do a search, it automatically search with Google. That never never happened until I installed latest Firefox. If Firefox is forcing me to use Google, that why do I need Firefox?? Please explain?

Thanks much for your time

Since the latest update, when I right-click on a bookmark or an item in the history list (from the menu or the bookmarks toolbar), I still get the menu that has items like "Open in new tab" or "Edit Bookmark".

However, the focus for the mouse stays on the previous menu, so that I can't click on anything in the "right-click menu", instead it is interpreted as a click in some random item in the previous menu.

Going into troubleshoot mode didn't help, so I don't think it's my configuration causing this.

I run Firefox under Linux Mint. Both are always update to the latest level. Over the past 1 to 1.5 years, across updates to both Firefox and Mint and multiple 'clean' installs of Firefox, I have experienced many crashes from Firefox per week. Sometimes there will be as many as 5 per day, but never less than one per day. During the same period I have also been running Vivaldi; it has not crashed once in that time. Now I have to do something. If there is a simple way to perform 'problem source identification', that is within my capability, I would be grateful for advice. If there is not, then clearly I will have to un-install Firefox.

As far as I can tell both of these browsers run with just 1 add-on/extension: uBlock Origin. Disabling this extension in Firefox does not stop Firefox from crashing.

Firefox has been crashing regularly for a full day now. I have one profile with multiple extensions, and a fresh profile that is meant to test firefox without any. With this new, "clean-slate" profile with none of my extensions installed, I still get repeated crashes. It is getting in the way of my ability to work- it happens even in Troubleshoot mode, even though I could not confirm any hardware issues prior to this.

Will I need to delete the extenstion-filled profile entirely before going forward? Is there an update I need to install, or anything else I should do myself? Should I provide a list of my extensions?

Attached is the Report ID of my latest crash- hopefully it will help.

Thank you!

Hi, I've been a use of FF since it was Netscape (yes I'm old). And its always been my favorite above all. However, with the recent update (ver 136, either installed from a .tar downloaded or an app via apt install) it starts fine but no matter what URL I try to access the busy indicator spins but nothing ever happens. I've tried disabling all my extensions to no avail. I'm also searched for others experiencing this issue. All my other browsers seem to work well on all the same sites.

I'm kind of at a loss so if anyone has any suggestions/ideas please share?

Thanks BobMCT

Version 128.0.3 (64-bit) What’s new Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint

When I visit a page which contains a Google Doc spreadsheet or try to open a Google Spreadsheet the page often fails to render properly and what I see is my desktop background instead of the Google doc element or Google doc sheet. Please see attached. This has been happening for ages and I resorted back to Chrome for such pages but now I'd like to see if it can be resolved.

Hi Team, I am using Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. Cinnamon version is 4.6.6. The issue is that I was browsing and by mistake I selected one tab then dragged it for sometime and then released the tab but that created a new window and now the old windows are not visible in ALT + Tab function. The windows are showing in the Firefox task manager and also the box icon in the top right corner in that "open tabs". Now I am not able to even change the window or able to access the opened tabs. Attached the screenshot and as you can see in that there are total 4 windows showing in firefox and one as active but in the bottom on the firefox icon you can see its only 1 window. How can I access the remaining 3 windows? Found one ticket (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1477845) in this the recommend solution does not work. When I try to click on the window 1 tabs then I do not get any response. I tried both the solution but none worked.

Thanks for the help in advance. @Mozilla team member is seeing please check and fix this bug if possible.

I often run into issues with PDFs in Firefox Linux. They either appear totally blank (typically after suspend/restore), or they appear with the desktop background showing through (as in the attached screenshot).

Hard refreshing the page doesn't change anything, opening a new tab and opening the PDF again doesn't change anything, opening a new window and loading the PDF doesn't change anything.

The screenshot is with this PDF: https://www.sgsw.ch/home/strom/_jcr_content/Par/sgsw_accordion_list_1838160259/AccordionListPar/sgsw_accordion_12353/AccordionPar/sgsw_downloadlist/DownloadListPar/sgsw_download_1049323524.ocFile/2023-08-31%20Mitteilung%20Elcom%20Erh%C3%B6hung%20Elektrizit%C3%A4tspreise%20f%C3%BCr%20das%20Jahr%202024.pdf

I'm attempting to set up Firefox in a newly installed OS and have logged into my Sync account. Many aspects seem to be loaded in, but the status via the Settings is stuck at "Syncing..." despite waiting several hours. Quitting Firefox results in a crash window popping up.

There are no files in the weave/logs directory. The weave/failed directory has multiple json files; most almost completely empty. addons.json has an ID, but that's pretty much it.

Deleting the .mozilla directory and starting over yielded no change in behavior.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm running 145.0.2 on Mint Linux and Windows 11...

Like many other users, I have an issue in which roughly half of the icons representing bookmarks on my Bookmarks Toolbar have been replaced by the black+and+white icon of a globe. The links work, but because most of them are now the same, it means I have to hover over them to make sure I click on the link I want.

I've tried: Exporting all my bookmarks to HTML; deleting all bookmarks; re-importing Deleting the "favicons.sqlite" database and letting Firefox recreate it Creating a new Profile and importing all my bookmarks "fresh" in to there

Not only does none of this seem to work, the results are actually inconsistent.

This problem has been kicking around for years - certainly for many major releases of the browser. I understand that there could be deep/complicated issues such as a corrupt user profile, for example...

Unfortunately, however, there does not appear to be any consistent or reliable effective advice on how to fix this issue... and nothing I try seems to resolve the problem.

I'd be very grateful for any recommendations on a reliable repair for this issue.

But I'd also be grateful for suggestions as to how we might go about suggesting to the devs that this long-running bug is overdue a permanent fix.

Thanks in hope.
