I am using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3 on my computer. But a message keeps coming while I use Firefox saying "You may want to upgrade your browser. You're using an old version of Firefox that is no longer supported and may be insecure. To upgrade, open Firefox's Help menu and click Check for Updates..." But when I open Firefox's help menu, I can't see "check for updates" to click. What should I do?

Since sometime in October, 2013, I have noticed that more and more YouTube videos stop playing within a minute of starting. Most that stop do so in 15 or 16 seconds. The playing stops because the download stops. I watch this on a network activity monitor I always have running. Not all videos do this, but the problem is becoming more and more frequent. Some videos which played correctly for me in the recent past are now exhibiting this problem.

Other than installing the latest Firefox updates I have NOT changed the software on my machine. I run Linux by the way. I do not think this is a Linux problem because (1) it was all working before and (2) my son who runs both Mac OS X *and* Windows is also seeing the same problem. We both use Firefox as our browser on all our platforms.

I should also note that I am NOT seeing this problem with any of the other video websites I use, only when I go to YouTube. That leads me to believe that the problem is not in Firefox; if it were it should affect videos from all websites.

Additionally the problem occurs whether or not I log into YouTube.

I have not run Firefox in safe mode because all the extensions I use did not affect the download of Videos before, so I don't expect unchanged extensions to suddenly start causing problems.

So, anyone else see this problem? (There was another note which talked about the same problem but it was disabled.)

Also -- pardon my paranoia, but -- I need to ask: Since YouTube is owned by Google and Google has its own browser it wants you to use, Chrome, is it possible that Google is intentionally causing some YouTube videos to fail if it sees that they are being sent to Firefox?

(That is not so outlandish I think. Microsoft WAS at one point caught mangling web pages going to certain web browsers other than IE. And these days Google wants to dominate the Internet just as badly as Microsoft does, so why not pull dirty tricks too?)

If this keeps happening I am going to have to try Google's Chrome to see if it somehow manages to play YouTube videos correctly while Firefox does not. But I really do NOT want to install Chrome because I trust Google about as much as I trust Microsoft, which is to say Not At All.

Thanks in advance.

If a web page (or local html page) is using this then they will have to use other ways get what they want like providing a Firefox extension.

Where is it possible to find an exension of this kind (if it exists)?

Why is it still not possible to download the 64bit version of Firefox from getfirefox.com? Everytime a new Firefox comes out I have to search to try to find the FTP archives and download it from there. This is silly. The 64bit versions are readily available from Mozilla itself. See for example:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/25.0/linux-x86_64/

To make matters worse: The getfirefox.com site doesn't even see that I don't use the latest version. When I go to that site with my 64bit Linux build of Firefox 24, the site happily says I am using the latest version, even though Firefox 25 has been out for some time.

HOWEVER - I get a report of "This Connection is Untrusted"

...and to add insult to injury, there is no button option to add an exception. Just the "get me out of here"

This is Firefox version 20 - I just updated this morning - on Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit. Connecting through a new Netgear router that I installed this afternoon ... so I can't tell exactly what the heck is going on.

THIS IS URGENT AS NOW I CAN'T ACCESS ANY OF MY GOOGLE SERVICES.

Technical Details

accounts.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed. The certificate is only valid for www.routerlogin.net

Firefox has a feature to remember my passwords, which is very useful. However, some sites mess with this so they won't save my passwords. In some cases these sites turn "autocomplete" off for the password field in their html; in other cases they appear to use some kind of javascript magic to stop me from saving my passwords.

First of all, why should websites try to stop me from saving my password? Do they really think its more secure if people have to write their passwords on stickynotes on their monitor to remember them--or worse, use the same password on all sites? I what way is it conceivably more secure? In any case it's MY business how I manage my passwords--not theirs!

I have had some success in battling evil sites that try to stop my from saving my passwords by editing the nsLoginManager.js file. But this is not convenient as I must keep doing this every time firefox gets upgraded, and it doesn't work for some sites like American Express which I think use some sort of javascript to stop me from doing what I want.

So my question is, how can I effectively make firefox remember ALL the passwords I want, when _I_ want to--and NOT obey evil websites that just want to practice CYA while actually making me LESS secure?

I am trying to install a plugin for hprooms. Their plugin has to be installed via a script. The script creates a .mozilla directory under the /home/{user} directory. Within that there is a plugins directory where it copies an .so file for the plugin. The plugin though does not show as an installed plugin though others do. I have no idea though where the other installed plugins are kept. I assume Firefox is supposed to check this directory for plugins?

I have a near identical system where this works. The only difference I can see is the working system is an Intel PC booting Ubuntu off a USB key whereas the non-working system is a Pandboard which uses two ARM processors. Otherwise the version of Ubuntu and Firefox are the same.

I am wondering if there is some way I can manually make this work. I need to get this plugin to work ASAP.

Thanks!

When using FF 19.0.2 on Ubuntu or Win7, to work on lab machines where an invalid self-signed cert has previously been "permanently stored", but has since changed. I (and much of the rest of the internet it would seem) frequently get caught in a catch 22 where an exception must be added to continue, but FF will not permit an exception to be added because "This site provides valid, verified identification. There is no need to add an exception".

I see this reported time & again in forums, but it seems as yet unfixed.

Doesn't seem to be an issue if one is rigorous and _always_ UN-checks "Permanently store this exception". To fix includes contortions through numerous work arounds, including clearing certs (hard, when cert list is full of self-signed localhost certs), history, cache, etc. until FF finally lets you "Confirm Security Exception".

I am at my wits end, and will have to start thinking of alternative browsers for day to day use.

FYI: IE & Chrome both let me confirm the damn exception and move on with my life.

Hi, I am owner of ikultura.net domain. Indeed a few monhs ago it has been attacked and some malware software has been installed in Joomla website. However, I did delete all content and there is only one file there (which is verification file of Google). So, there is no website there, no files and definitely no viruses.

I have reported it to Stopbadwage.org, also to Google and there are no issues from their sides. Also all other browsers like Opera, Chrome/Chromium, Safari or Midtori are showing only information that access is forbidden (it is default information from 1and1 shared servers if there is no content in main domain directory). Web providers which check websites after viruses like urlvoid.com showing no bad results too.

Because Firefox is well known browser, I would like also make visitors happy with no information about attack site. There were only archive of my old online magazine, I still got database, so as soon there will be no bad reports about that domain, I will setup new website, but now I want to keep no files there to make things easier to check by you.

Please let me know what can be done to remove that warning from ikultura.net domain. Thank you in advance.

The problem is that whenever I try to open .swf files with firefox from my computer, it ask me to either open it with a third party software or to save it on my computer. It should just use its shock wave flash plugin and play the .swf itself. When I did some search on the internet, I found out I was not the only with this problem, but I couldn't find any solution working for me.

Here are some informations that could help you. - My O.S. is Ubuntu 14.04 and my firefox version is 28.0. - firefox can play swf file from web without any problem. - Here is how I installed the plugin flash player : 1 - Downloaded .tar.gz from http://get.adobe.com/fr/flashplayer/.

                                                                                2 - Followed README instructions.
3 - From now on, swf content did play fine within firefox while web browsing.

- I followed the instructions from this page "http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Resetting_download_actions" without success.

Thanks for reading and trying to help,

When I want to use a second profile in parallel I use the command "firefox -P --no-profile" to start the profile selector.
