I had no problem with the last version (can't remember what it was) but after being bombarded with messages trying to persuade me to get FF4, I ddownloaded it. It freezes and I have to force-close it literaly every session. It plays YouTube videos so slowly and jumpy I just can't watch them. I am considering going back to IE, which is something I have never considered once since discovering that other browsers exist, aged about 9. Bad call, guys. Bad call.

What kind of company are you running!!! You take away my house so I can't go back to my homepage and there are no more green arrows so I can't go back that way either. I have to close each window and start over again or hit start and your internet symbol to start over again. Give me back my TOOL BAR!!!! You have ruined what little enjoyment I get from this contraption! If you are trying to get customers to hate you then you have succeeded at least once. Maybe you haven't realized that not every computer user is a twenty year old computer genius! The least you could have done was to tell me that everything including my tool bar would disappear ...You more or less forced me to "update" and didn't offer any choices. Are you sure that you're not Facebook!? If the person who recommended these changes were here right now I would happily strangle them!!! AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SEND AN EMAIL FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES...YOU DON'T MAKE ANYTHING EASY!!!!!!!!!

Problem is at a contest website. After entering info on two screens, a 3rd screen comes up with a survey on it. One of the questions contains 19 checkboxes. Only one MUST be checked to continue on to the next screen. This worked properly in FF 3.6.1, but now in 4.0.1, I must check ALL 19 boxes before the website will proceed to the next page.

I have tested this on two PCs that have FF 4.0.1 and a third that still has FF 3.6.1. The other two PCs are both Windows XP. The problem exists on the two PCs with FF 4.0.1 and NOT on the one with FF 3.6.1.

I also have 4 profiles on all three computers. The problem happens on all 4 profiles.

I copy the places.sqlite file between the 4 profiles so the bookmarks stay current between all for profiles.

This is a portion of the webpage source:

<div id="q3" class="required"><label for="q3">
<span class="q_sort">3. </span>When you purchase DVDs/Blu-Ray discs what movie genres are you most interested in?</label>
    <div id="q3-option-group" class="option-group">
  <input required type="checkbox" name="q3" value="a1" />&nbsp;Action<br />

  <input required type="checkbox" name="q3" value="a2" />&nbsp;Adventure<br />

  <input required type="checkbox" name="q3" value="a3" />&nbsp;Animated<br />

Support page says to just restart Firefox, which I've been doing via Force Quit since there's no other way. But this is happening every 1-2 hours, which is just unacceptable for prolonged work. It doesn't matter what site I'm on or what I'm doing when it happens. First multi-touch scrolling stops working, then I realize I can't click on anything, then I realize I can't change tabs. What causes this and is there a way to fix it? I love FF 4 otherwise so I don't want to go back.

EDIT: I submitted this right after FF had frozen and I restarted. Fifteen minutes later, it did it again.

This happened in 3.x and still occurs in 4.x

When I search for something on google.com and say scroll down towards the bottom of the search results - and click on a link - it takes me to the resulting site just fine. But when I click on the back button it will only take me back to the *top of the google search page* and I have to scroll all the way down the list to find where I left the results to go to page I came back from.

This is absolutely maddening.

I've tried restarting FF in safe mood to see if it still occurs and it does so I'm thinking it's not an add in or extension.

I've also seen refs to a problem with the Mcaffee site advisor breaking the back button but this is not the same issue. My back button works, it just doesn't take me back to google.com where I left it, so I have to scroll all the way down and check which links are purple to find where I left off. Crazy.

Note that this does NOT happen on other sites, only google.com which I happen to live in all day long with my work.

If anyone can help with this I'd sure appreciate it.

Thank you!

When I go to Tools, Options, Advanced Configure how Firefox Connects to the Internet the settings are Manual with theHTTP proxy set to 127.0.0.1 Port 50687. Then it says No Proxy for localhost 127.0.01. In order to do anything I change the setting to Autodetect, but it keeps switching back. Please tell me what to do.

The only other thing I did today was to run a Malwarebytes scan that found some bad files and they were quarantined/deleted. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've been using Firefox -- and its predecessor, Netscape -- almost exclusively since I gave up Mosaic for Netscape shortly after Netscape came on the scene. Firefox 4.0 is a big disappointment. I will say that it seems to run much faster than the previous version, but that isn't nearly enough to compensate for the disappointments:

  • I don't like the new look. The old buttons may have gotten boring to look at, but I found them more intuitive -- i.e., easier to recognize them for their functions. (Browser aesthetics are overrated. I don't use Firefox to look at it; I use it to look at the web pages within. (When contemplating a work of art, how much time do you spend looking at the picture frame?))
  • I don't like having to rearrange the toolbars. (To me, it made much more sense to have the tabs just above the pages to which they referred. Why move them to the top? The user's eyes spend more time on the web pages, so having to look to the top is more of a visual reach.)
  • Why move the Home button to the right -- because MS IE did it? (I'm forced to use that at work.) We (in most of the world) read from left to right. The left side is the more intuitive side to have a "Home" button.
  • I don't like the combined Reload/Stop Loading button. Saving a quarter of an inch of space on that menu bar served only to allow a bigger URL box. ("Amazing" box? Nice bit of programming, but let's keep the names descriptive of what they do (rather than what you think of them), please. I use it for URL's -- not to be amazed.) In the split second it takes to hit the stop button; it might just stop all on its own before I can react -- and then I'll just start another reload. That's got frustration written all over it.
  • I also don't like the missing up- and down-arrows (to go back and forth through a tab's browsing history several pages at a time) next to the "Go back one page" and "Go forward one page" buttons. I discovered that I can use the right mouse button, instead, but still prefer the visual cues of the old buttons.
  • I don't like the add-on bar and its function of showing loading URL's in a popup tab, obscuring web page content. They should be displayed right on the bar.
  • Finally, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS" FEATURE?

These changes just don't seem logical. I get the feeling that change is being made just for the sake of change. If it wasn't broken, what's the point in changing it? Worse yet, it almost looks like you're moving towards the look and feel of other browsers. You are losing your individuality and, more importantly, your no-nonsense, straightforward functionality, all for the sake of bells and whistles. I will be uninstalling this software, shortly, and reverting to 3.x. If these problems aren't addressed in future versions, sadly, I will have to look for other options. I got over the passing of Mosaic; I suppose this, too, shall pass.

Like so many 100s of other people I regretably upgraded my Firefox to the latest and have had endless problems since. The latest problem is that when trying to watch a video, on youtube for instance, I am told that I don't have the latest Adobe Flash Player - which I do and I know that for a fact because I then launch the same video in Internet Explorer with NO problems. What is going on with this update and why are you not sorting out the problems. Like so many other people have said - why did you have to mess with it, there was nothing wrong !!!! I am on the verge of going back to Internet Explorer

I experienced lots of issues (not necessarily relevant right now) in making the switch from 3 to 4. Before I download 5 from 4, I need to know what to be on the lookout for? Are the changes in 5 that extreme or can I safely and comfortably stay with 4? I don't twitter, social media, decorate, or any of that other stuff. Simply use Firefox as my browser of choice to the internet.

Running Windows XP Pro and Firefox 4.0.1. On a recent restart of Firefox, most of the favicons for my app tabs had disappeared; in their place it just shows the blank page icon.

I have unpinned and repinned with no change. I cleared cookies and then restarted the various websites, with no change. In a couple of cases when I bookmarked the sites in question, the favicons appeared on the bookmark bar, but still won't appear on the app tab; in other cases I get the blank page icon on the bookmark as well as the app tab. No items previously on the bookmark bar lost their favicons. I had previously been able to see the unique favicons for all sites on app tabs.
