How can I adjust the increment of page jumps that occur when "near-clicking" the scrollbar?
A particular feature is driving me crazy. If I'm browsing a page and scrolling down by left clicking the arow at the bottom of the vertical scrollbar space (or clicking and dragging the scrollbar itself) if the mouse slips a few pixels off either (the scrollbar or arrow) the webpage jumps quickly and too far, for my tastes, down the page.
I am a power browser with multiple tabs open simultaneously, and go back and forth between tabs frequently. Having to drag the scrollbar up to find the place the page jumps down from when I've made these "missed" clicks is frustrating and a waste of time.
Typically I postion the mouse and am reading the page while trying to advance downward by holding and scrolling. It isn't convenient to try to read the page and watch the cursor at the same time.
Is there any way I can (1) turn off the page jumping entirely, so if the mouse slips maybe the page just doesn't andvance, and/or (2) at least adjust how far down the page travels when this mistake occurs, to decrease the distance I have to back search to return to the original spot.
Yes, i can avoid all this by advancing down the page using the "page up" and "page down" buttons on the keyboard, but I prefer scrolling so that the material I' reading can be positioned to minimize eye scanning, rather than having a fixed page and having to read down it.

If you click the scroll bar area instead of the scroll button then you do a page down, so all you need to do is a page up by clicking the scroll bar above the scroll thumb or press the Page Up key.
I know that. The behaviour I mentioned in my initial question is exactly that. A click in the wrong place seems to advance the webpage much more than a single page up or page down. It rolls down, farther than seems necessary, rather than by one page, like (for example) in a pdf or word document.
I don't want errant clicks in the scroll bar area to cause me to lose my place, nor do I want to have to be either clicking or dragging to find my place in the page again. Rarely is finding my place again a matter of simply one click or one "page up", especially in long pages or those that refresh and offer new content upon downward advance, such as Facebook feeds, Yahoo news comment sections, or New York Times' live updated blogs.
What I'd actually prefer is to nullify the action altogether, of scroll area clicks moving the page up or down. In other words, unless I am dragging down the scroll bar with the mouse, there is no page advance, either rolling or incremental. Then I could concentrate on my reading rather than the position of the mouse in the scroll bar area. Is this possible, with either an add-on, about:config edit, or userChrome.css edit?
