The update is greyed out on my EeePC 900A. The existing version is 3.0.4 Is there no update path for this PC?

No, you won't need to update to a newer version of Linux for each Firefox upgrade.

The version of Xandros that the EeePC's were shipped with was created in the spring of 2007 (like 5 years ago), and in "Linux years" it was outdated when the EeePC was first introduced outside of China in June 2008. That really limited the EeePC to using the software that was shipped with it and the limited software repository that Asus had for it, along with older versions of Linux software.

Linux distro's handle program updates thru their program repository, and those versions of Firefox disable the Check for Updates menu item in Firefox (I wonder why they just don't hide that menu item when they disable that preference).

I found the version of Xandros that came with my EeePC 900A to be a real dog when running a Firefox 3+ version, so I just installed a more modern version of Linux when I wanted to move beyond Firefox 2.0.0.x.

Thanks edmeister I have been looking at other version but will it mean that I will need to update the OS everytime I want to update firefox?

My plan at the moment is to put a version on a usb stick and try and find the one which works best without too much fuss.

Any suggestions? Bearing in mind that my linux skills are limited!!

Dhoaaa! I just saw your link at the bottom of your post!

Thanks for that edmeister, I believe that a new version of easypeasy is due out at some time but will try a few other flavours in the meantime.
