When I try to load a newer version of firefox I get the error message "you don't have sufficient permissions to load firefox" from firefox. How do I get them?

have firefox 3.0.10 on my Mac with OS X .5.6 I can download the latest version of firefox, 7.0.1 dmg. I can open that and get a drive on the desktop. I am the only user and system administrator. How can I not have sufficient privileges? but when I drag the firefox program to the applications folder I always get this message from the firefox program. "you don't have sufficient privileges to open firefox" What is going wrong to prevent me from updating my firefox?
