i found myself replacing my computer for various reasons and need to get all my data of my old computer to the new one. however, when it came to Firefox and my tab groups, book marks and history i found no real way to export them to the other computer. is there some way to save all that information and then move it onto the new computer? it is tiresome to have to lose all my save information as well as all the tabs i have because i need them and it is time consuming to be copy and pasting all my address into a text and saving it that way.

in the listed links I read about saving and exporting and restoring everything but groups.

Obviously it would be nice if they simply did not disappear, but as long a they do (as with the latest upgrade to FF8.0) I would like to know where they are stored (so I can retrieve them from time machine) and how I can export them to use on other devices.

It would also be useful for FF sync to sync them - there is no mention of that - therefore I have stayed with Xmarks for now - as this also lets me sync with Chrome and Safari.

hi,

Setting up Firefox Sync is an option: Tools > Options > Sync. More about this here.

Another way would be to do it manually. First open a tab group and right click on any tab and choose 'Bookmark All Tabs...'. Repeat this for all the tab groups. Close Firefox. If you are in Linux, set the file manager option to show hidden files in the file manager and then navigate to your home folder /home/??? > .Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles. If you haven't renamed your profile or created other profiles there will be a ???.default folder. Inside this there is a places.sqlite file. Copy this inside the same folder on the other PC.

If it's Windows the folder path is %userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.
