Mousewheel stops scrolling intermittently - must restart

Since installing 4.0 my Dell optical scrolling mouse intermittently stops scrolling using the mousewheel. The only way that I am able to regain the function is to close Firefox and then restart it. This happens at least daily (usually more often). I have updated to the latest drivers for my mouse with no result. I am running XP with the latest updates. The Dell mouse suite software is Control center version 2.50.022 and the driver version is 2.50.021
