New day, new glitch. Since the inception of weather showing on the Firefox landing page, it has accurately shown my location. Today, it is not only not my city, it is in another state. It also does not respond to my making a correction with my zip code. Can we expect a correction any time soon?

Try to right click it and select Change location. It doesn't accept ZIP codes, only city names.

Do you mean the installed default Firefox page that first loads? What site are you using to do the weather check?

Sorry, I assumed that on this forum were only addressing Firefox issues. It is the the weather report which sits in the upper left of the screen when I open up a new tab (accuweather sponsored). Firefox is my default browser. This is no biggie, just annoying since I appreciate when it is accurate. The error came out of nowhere this morning. This is a Firefox internal issue and was hoping someone at Firefox would read about this new glitch so they can work on a fix.

Those type of popup uses your system O/S and ISP tracking to determine your location for that data point and if you use VPN or Proxy it will give the wrong location and if you block cookies tracking that some site aka weather station uses it will give incorrect location giving wrong weather data as well. My Firefox doesn't popup with that kind of weather popup.

The weather location is based on your IP location. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customize-items-on-firefox-new-tab-page#w_weather

This feature is currently available to users in the U.S. only, starting in Firefox 128.0 and later.

You can set this pref to true in about:config.

  • about:config => browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.weather.locationSearchEnabled => true

I shouldn't have to go into about:config nor do I want to start messing with my laptop. I am in the US and I have the weather icon. It only recently started showing my in the wrong city and wrong state. And, to top it off the change location does not respond. p.s. the about:config is already set to TRUE

Finally, a simple solution. Thank you. Who knew? I don't recall the Firefox tutorial mentioning specifically that it would not accept zip code for location changes. Multiple times a day for a couple of days I was entering in my zip code (FireFox needs to address this). I was getting instructions to go into about:config. Often times smart techies make things so complicated by thinking too far out of the box. Thank you for keeping it simple; let's hope it sticks and I don't have to keep changing it every single day (for some reason I feel that I may have to). I don't know why all of a sudden it put me in another city and a bordering state. Do yo have any thoughts on that?
