Password Export is very user-unfriendly

more options

I like to keep a copy of all my passwords, just in case. Maybe I get a new computer, or, maybe something gets corrupted or accidentally deleted, ... etc. I've been using computers for a long time and ... Stuff Happens.

I wish Firefox made things a little more user-friendly.

When exporting passwords, the default file name is just "logins". Sure, I can rename it to something more sensible, like "Firefox Passwords 2022-09-27", but, shouldn't Firefox automatically do that for me?

The only file format options are .csv and .xml, both of which are completely useless for the average person.

Sure, I can import the .csv file into Excel, and then spend a lot of time stripping out all the unnecessary stuff, but again, shouldn't Firefox do that for me? When I export passwords Firefox warns me that the file is readable by anyone, so, why not just export something a little more sensible and usable.

A plain text file where each line just consists of

URL     Username     Password

I'm a little disappointed that there doesn't seem to be any way to submit feature requests directly to Mozilla, but hopefully someone will see this and consider it.

Mozilla recently started up a new "Ideas" site at https://connect.mozilla.org/. I think if you have time, it would be a good idea to post there to get into the current feedback stream. You'll notice separate sections for "Ideas" and "Discussions" -- the Ideas are the ones that are in the flow for product feature consideration, while Discussions tend to be more general.
