"Dev tools" grid appearing bottom of screen

Hi,

This appeared out of the blue; flickers all screen, I can't close it properly. Pressing ctrl works for a short time. Now in troubleshoot mode. Cl eared cache, turned off hardware acceleration which wrked a short time. Then I tried to follow instructions to stop repeated requests to enter P. password and it started again - Might be triggered by entering primary password?? Any help appreciated but I'm not a sophiscated computer person. Thanks
