Firefox 78.15.0esr (64-bit) constantly crashing on Mac El Capitan when I try to attach an image
Firefox has been my favourite browser for years but I am about to uninstall and kick it to the curb!!!
Every time I want to attach/insert an image (on many different sites/platforms/apps) it freezes ~ I have to shut down and start again, losing whatever I have been working on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and have checked ~ all is up to date.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Your Mac OS X 10.11 platform is no longer supported, so you can no longer update Firefox beyond Firefox 78 ESR (update channel: mozilla-mac-eol-esr1). Current Firefox releases require Mac OS X 10.12 and newer.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.
Please, Do not post a screenshot ! !

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I tried this but it does not show anything that would be related to the problem ~ only 3 reports and they are all from last year or earlier in 2021, nothing for the 10+ times in last 3 months ~ thanks anyway!

OK!! So I was able to establish that it doesn't give a problem when in safe mode! In light of @cor-el answer that my version no longer supported, what can I do to rectify .. I was about to uninstall and use Bravo?!!
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Settings -> General: Performance
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use hardware acceleration when available" - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/performance-settings
Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting to make changes effective.
If it works in Troubleshoot Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:
- "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
- Windows: File -> Exit
- Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
- Linux: File -> Quit
