Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Done that , still the same. Very slow to move to other web sites in version 92.0 If I use Chrome/Edge it's a lot quicker, but I prefer Firefox. Suggestions? Should I uninstall & re install, if so how? Also what about Bookmarks if I uninstall?

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Firefox ESR; Extended Support Release {web link}

Beta, Developer, Nightly versions https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Have not done above yet, but another point:- I keep getting a message saying that Firefox has crashed, even though it's not open. Is this same problem?

more options

Might have been a tab crash. Current Firefox is running several multiprocess on the computer. If one process should have issues, the others might continue on.

More than one process is normal for the current Firefox. http://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/22/multi-process-firefox/

Multi-process Firefox is codenamed "e10s". https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/multiprocess

Please only post the reports dated this month.

Fred, Did my post of the crash reports not help? I have now submitted those from this month Will you come back with answers?

I also note on my very slow/old laptop that F.Fox runs OK. The only difference is that i do not use AVG security on laptop.

I also note that if I leave F.Fox logged in on machine that is giving trouble that F.Fox has no problems on quickly moving to other web sites. To me it seems to be a clash with AVG updates when F.Fox starts up. Comments?

The report numbers will have changed to numbers starting with bp- Post these new numbers, just those dated this month.

You can check for issues with Storage (indexedDB).

more options

Sorry Cor-el, I do not understand your reply. I will wait for FredMcd analysis. Thanks

more options

The crashes seem to be with the Quota Manager (indexdDB, local storage). If you open the webpage in my above link then you can run a test to check if there are issues reported with storage.

  • Firefox 91.0.2 Crash Report [@ static mozilla::dom::quota::QuotaManager::Shutdown::<T>::operator()::<T>::__invoke ]

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" then try to disable this feature.

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exceptions for passwords and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep

Fred/Cor, I think you are both very bright!

The problem, I think, has now gone from my system.

Do you think it was AVG (Avast), that was causing it?

more options

I take it you updated Avast? Great to hear.
