Firefox Browser 91.0.1 (64 bits) updated on August 17, 2021

DESKTOP-RMQPN98, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz 2.11 GHz RAM 16,0 Go 2EA08739-3F4E-41FC-9C65-5F14D51A3A70 00326-10000-00000-AA107 64 bits

Windows 10 Famille, 20H2, Installed on 29/‎03/‎2021 OS Build 19042.1165 Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

Hello,

For 1 week, perhaps since August 17, 2021, all of my usernames, passwords and main password have frequently disappeared.

This morning I closed the browser and launched it again. I have, a priori, lost nothing.

I restarted the computer. Again, the usernames, passwords and master password were gone.

I didn't changed any settings before or after the last update.

Any solution ?

Regards.

I already tried the following link : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-user-data-missing-after-firefox-update

But it wasn't the solution.

Concerning that one : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-firefox-securely-saves-passwords

I only use desktop.

What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .

How were the passwords lost?

Firefox 80+ has a logins-backup.json file in the profile folder that can be used in case of issues with logins.json or to undo an accidental delete of a login, so you can check if you can find this file in the profile folder or in a backup and replace the current logins.json. Make sure to keep a backup copy of all involved files (logins.json and key4.db and logins-backup.json)

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Help -> More Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Folder/Directory:
Windows: Open Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

How were the passwords lost? : as I said : As I indicated, I lose the usernames, passwords and master password when I restart the computer.

"What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history" : no problem with settings, bookmarks and history

I copied the logins.json and key4.db and logins-backup.json

I will confirm later if it was a good option.

Thank you

FredMcD,

Your information was helpful.

Before upload the last release 9 1.0.2 August 24, 2021, I saved the 3 files.

When I log again, some sensitive data were still there, so it changed.

But the main password wasn't recognized !

So I copy the 3 files and I could entered.

So the new release correct something but I have to wait, maybe, the next to have a regular firefox.

Are you running any cleanup software like CCleaner or Advanced SystemCare ?

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there? Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.

That's good to hear.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles {web link} I use a Legacy add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
