open url when navigation bar is hidden

Hi, I have created a userChrome.css and I have hidden the navigation toolbox with

  1. navigator-toolbox {visibility: collapse;}

Now the problem is that I cannot open any website, I mean I cannot type in any url. Alt + D and Ctrl + L seem to do nothing. So Firefox starts without any gui basically but cannot be used? It's just an empty window frame or shows the starting page (of course, if there are links on the starting page, it works, but how to open a different website?).
