Bookmarks missing from other computer

more options

Hello,

I was a little surprised to see that my current computer hasn't reflected the updated bookmarks which I bookmarked on my other computer with being logged into my account as well which I thought would be the case after syncing Firefox on my current computer. I'm not too sure of how to get around this since I checked Firefox on my laptop which I used recently and had the recent bookmarks listed but not on my other computer where I'm on now. Hope you can help me figure out how to get around this outside of trying to sync my information which I haven't had much luck with. Thank you.

Have you tried forcing a sync? Click the menu on the top-right, then your email address. You will see a Sync Now button. Please do this twice: firstly, on the computer that you updated the bookmarks on. Secondly do it on the computer that is not showing the updated bookmarks.

You should also check that both devices are signed into the same account and that Bookmark sync is enabled - in the same menu there is a Sync Settings button, ensure that Bookmarks are checked.

Failing both, you may wish to log out and back into your account.

Hope this helps.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

If you use Sync then best is to reconnect one device at the time and wait for the initial Sync to finish before connecting another device once you have fixed the bookmarks.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts as in doing the Sync Now which I did with being logged in my account on both computers then logged out of both of them then back on with trying syncing it again but didn't have much luck. So, I'm not too sure of why this is happening with having a website open on my current computer which I know I already bookmarked on my other computer which I saw under Recently Bookmarked. I'm not too sure of how to get around this. Thanks.

In the meantime, I thought I could try by quitting Firefox then starting it up with logging in to my account which brought up the recent bookmarks I had from my other computer. So, I guess all is ok for now. If this happens again, I know what to do in order for Firefox to update with my recent bookmarks with both my computers. Thank you for your input.

hello anduma,

as a temporary workaround you could export bookmarks from one machine and then import them into the other machine.

what might also be possible is using a different profile on the new machine and see if it overcomes the issue.

A couple of profiles should be listed on the FF profile manager and one of them has not been customized yet. Then try to sync it. (but be sure to be signed out of FF acct on the other machine)

Windows start > search (or run) > FireFox -p
