Yesterday, youtube quit working in Firefox. I updated to 72.0.2 several days ago and it was working fine. Invidio links also won't play. Nor will YT embedded vids on Diaspora. Plays fine testing with Safari. I think my privacy settings are causing this problem, but I don't know which one(s) to change. Ant Ideas ?

Okay, I took a screenshot of the sky news previous video picture in the channel 4 selected video location. But I don't know where the screenshot is. It's not on the desktop as I expected... hmmmm

Het CG, Thanks, I'm going to need some pretty specific instructions on how to do that. Sorry I didn't see your comment till I'd responded to Chris. It's too late for me tonight, I'll have to take this up tomorrow.

Did you take your screenshot with the Firefox screenshot tool?

If you chose Download, it is wherever you have Firefox set to place downloads. If that happens to be your desktop directory, then it should be in your desktop somewhere.

If you chose Copy, the screenshot data was saved to a buffer. You would have to open an image editing / drawing application and paste into a new, empty file, then save it.

If you need more detailed instructions, let us know which thing you wanted to try. (E.g., from my post, either uninstall/reinstall Firefox, or looking for your old profile.)

Note that if you did the Refresh Firefox action mentioned in previous posts, then your old profile data would be saved to a folder on your desktop. That would need to be imported to the new profile, and we can help with this as well.

Did you make sure Firefox is installed properly ?

Open the Firefox Disk Image file and drag the Firefox application to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the Disk Image, but instead drag it out of the DMG folder.

Hi CG and cor-el, Thanks I was late and tired yesterday. I really don't know what option is best. I do have a file on the desktop marked 'Old Firefox Data', this appeared when I finally tackled updating from FF66 to FF72, you could see my difficulties on my previous question thread here. I just gave up on it until a week or two ago. I am ready to take your reccommendations on how to proceed. If my data and settings can be retrieved from that 'Old Data' file, I'm tempted to re-download the application and install it correctly by your instruction. Be aware that I am especially talented in the field of messing-up computer installations.... I am also concerned that I might lose touch with you during the process, I remember I had to delete the application last time before installing the new one.

What do you think ???? ......Andrew.

Hi Andrew, "Old Firefox Data" is a folder that gets created when you perform a refresh of Firefox. If you ever want to restore that data, you can use the instructions in the following article: Recovering important data from an old profile .

Are you still experiencing the original issue? Would you mind sending us a screenshot of what you're seeing? For instructions, see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?.

If you need more specific help, we can always schedule a Skype session if you want.

Hey Chris, Yeah, it came up when I did the initial update from 66. I did go through the process to restore it to 72, and it seemed to have worked. But this last 'restore' (not sure if that's the right term for what I did) obviously did not encompass the data retrieval. Of course I've forgotten how I did it in the first instance, but it seemed to have worked. The problem was the programme registry getting confused about accessing youtube material, and then, ultimately, sending garbage requests to YT for retrieval, which ended up being rejected wholesale.

It seems likely to me, as a non-technical, that there are several things going wrong here, probably due to my ineptitude in managing my device. Again, as a layman, I'm inclined to dump all my previous mistakes and start again, assuming I can retrieve from that file on my desktop.

So, essential functionality still exists in FF. But something is wrong. I'm not panicking about this, yet.

Thanks for the offer of skype, but again, as a layman, I'm led to believe skype is malicious and I have never used it.

I have the screenshot, but have no Idea how to put it here in this thread. I really don't think it will be of any use diagnostically. It is as I have described above.

Thanks Chris, Cranky and Cor for staying with me on this.

If you want to post your screenshot, look below any newly started post. You will find Add images and a Browse button. Click the button, and navigate to where your screenshot is located. Click the screenshot file and then click the Open button. It will upload your screenshot, and it will be added below your post when you click the Post Reply button.

Note that should you choose to reinstall Firefox per previous instructions, you won't lose any data. That would have to be deleted separately.
