Since reinstalling Firefox links in emails and documents dont work. Have tried all fixes suggested for "operation cancelled" message but not resolved
I re-installed firefox as it seemed to have irregular problems. After download software and installing I imported saved bookmarks.
Since then every time I have tried to click on links in emails or documents on my desktop (Windows 7) I get the message "this operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. I have followed all the suggested solutions eg clearing cache, editing registry but nothing works. Firefox is my default browser.
Could something have gone wrong with new installation. Should I do it again. Or is it something else.
I have been using Firefox as my default browser for more years than I can remember and dont want to change now.

Just came back to say I haven't tried out the solutions you suggested.
This is because links from a word document or email seem to be working.
So the only thing I can think is that after re-installing and after editing the registry I just re-booted.
And that maybe the changes only were completed when I totally powered down.
So maybe if I had powered down after re-installing I wouldn't have had any problems. Will never know if I needed to edit the registry.

Hi volunteer, this problem occurs with Microsoft Office when you uninstall your default browser from one folder and then install it into another. Office is too stupid to find the new location. Now I do have another thought: if Firefox is currently installed on the 64-bit programs path here:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
Office might be looking for it on the 32-bit programs path here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
So perhaps you can fool Office if you create that missing folder and copy a shortcut to the new firefox.exe into it (or a copy of firefox.exe).
You only have to fool Office long enough to successfully change your default browser to IE, test that it works, then remove the fake folder and change it back to Firefox.

I must admit had i known there were problems in reinstalling I wouldn't have bothered.
As I have tried the regedit fix, clearing caches etc., I think your explanation about Office and folders may be the answer.
Will not be able to look into this until later but will try out the options you suggest.
