I cannot see my saved logins nor log into any password protected page after upgrading to OxygenOS 9.0.8

The phone is OnePlus 6 on Android 9. The about:logins page keeps spinning a wait cursor and never loaded. If I try to enter any password protected site, it brings me back to the authorization page - even for sites where I was logged in for a long time. This started yesterday, after upgrading my OS to Oxygen 9.0.8. Other browsers (such as Chrome) work well.
