Continual messages from Firefox

Firefox is beginning to become more of an annoyance than it is worth - most of the reason for this is the continual string of updates, messages, click bars and pop ups it shows on start up.

No these are not spam or bad add ins, they are programmed interruptions inherent to FF.

Users of FF want to get on and do things. Having to close windows with news about the latest update (and there are soooo many updates), or news that the opml feed is now on your desktop (another thing to waste time attending to) or messages about privacy or messages about syncing pages and settings or pop up messages about how FF is private etc are just plain annoying.

It is getting to the point where I expect to wait longer for FF to start and then have to wade through cruft, than it takes to boot the entire Windows 10 OS and deal with the Ms cruft on the log in screens.

If people want to learn, then they will look stuff up. So seriously - stop popping up tabs, notices, messages, dialog boxes and other cruft. Let the users just get on with using FF rather than putting up with cruft about using FF.

FF is now officially slower to start than every other browser we have and slower than me booting an entire windows 10 pc - all because of continuous updates which don't seem to do anything for me - or most users. oh sure, you can say its for security but if you are patching security holes as regularly as you are updating FF then there is something terribly wrong in your programming standards and coding methodologies - not to mention test process.

Its a trend to tell people about your product - but its one that annoys users. We just want to get on with using whatever - so please get out of our way and let us just use the product.

I like FF - but I liker it a lot less than I used to as its now annoying the crud out of me almost every day.

My 10c worth.

I called for more help about the problem.

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player or remove it using these links; Uninstall Flash Player | Windows {web link} Uninstall Flash Player | Mac {web link}

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Which you need to know about - Would you please take a look at this article :

[quote] Please read FredMcD's first sentence in his post. /quote I don't understand. He has called for more help about the problem. ??? I take it that means he is going to talk to others about this.

Then followed by truckloads of stuff re Flash which has nothing to do with my post.

Ironically if he added that stuff as an FYI then it plays straight into my complaint that FF is throwing truckloads of cruft at users which isn't required.

1 line saying he was talking to others. 16 lines of cruft that have nothing to do with my post.

Actually I don't need to know about it - I don't keep live feed bookmarks. If the developers had put in a single line which said, If USER.USES.LIVE.BOOKMARKS Then

   do stuff and advise them

ELSE

  DONT.ANNOY.USERS.WITH.CRUFT

End if

then I would never have another piece of crud on my desktop to delete and a pop up to click past and ignore as not relevant.

FredMcD mentioned twice that it's a separate issue ......

Nowhere in your first post does it say that you don't use Flash - and with that post FredMvD only has your best interest at heart.

1 line saying he was talking to others.

No, a line saying that he called for more help; meaning : asking others to take a look at your problem(s).

@McCoy - Read my original post again. Especially the second line: It says, "No these are not spam or bad add ins, they are programmed interruptions inherent to FF. "

The example given in the screen shot is not flash, its another bloody annoying tab pop up built into FF after an update. The examples given are annoying pop ups and tabs and other hindrances being built into FF by the FF developers.

The developers are building PITN interruptions into their updates which is like them standing with a big sign going, "Look at us, look at us, we done stuff!!!" and us having to block them out and close them down.

The gist of my post is stop annoying users with cruft - there is more nad more creeping into FF nad it is a completye waste of time and effort.

I'm not denigrating @FredMcD - I'm saying it doesn't match my post - it is off at a tangent. I appreciate the time taken but it is off track!!

I did read your original post .....

There are a few things you can turn off when you go to Options => Home => under 'Firefox Home Content'.

These developers you are talking about don't mean to annoy users, but know that they are developing a product for different users, with different desires and wishes. What one likes (or even wants), the other one hates. It's impossible to please everybody .....

Something you may not know : The people who answer questions here are (for the main part) volunteers, users just like you, who are trying to help other users in their spare time. Mozilla, the company that makes Firefox (which is free), doesn't have the financial means to maintain a professional help desk, but if you'd like to give feedback, complain, submit suggestions :

Input page: https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/FirefoxInput/

Twitter: https://twitter.com/firefox

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Firefox

I hope that someone else here will be able to solve your problem(s) though ......

Only if the previous versions had serious critical vulnaerlbilities to Soft Block them (Click to Activate). The last time a block was done was on Sept 10 and there has been some new Flash versions since. https://blocked.cdn.mozilla.net/

I'm closing this as it seems that all people want to do is go off topic, insinuate I'm pissing on forum users and who seem to think a forum starting a discussion on the faults of popping cruft multiple times per day in front of clients is a bad idea.

Another typical forum experience. No engagement with the original purpose of the post.

this was a waste of my time. Sorry for giving feed back in an FF forum. I thought it was a place to discuss FF things but obviously isn't.
