Why can I no longer access the Royal Bank, PC Optimum, and others since the end of June?

more options

I have been getting yellow triangle messages for some time now but as of the end of June I can no longer access my Royal Bank account, my Bank of New Zealand account a while back, PC Optimum, and a few others nor can I sign many petitions once I have read the messages. I did have a message from somewhere about Qualtics ?? requiring TLS1.2 whatever that means. My computer is a 10 yr old Mac, still in great condition and still working for the most part but becoming more and more frustrating. I am reluctant to rush out and spend $1,450 on a new Mac just because something have changed....

Please advise, Thank you, Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, websites have changed a lot in 10 years, and so has Firefox. Apologies if these comments do not match up to your version as I can't remember Firefox 48, much less Firefox 12.

As noted in the first reply, it is difficult to diagnose the other issues without specific wording of the error page. However, prior to Firefox 24 (September 2013 -- TLS 1.1 and 1.2 could be optionally enabled), the best standard Firefox supported was TLS 1.0.

If a site no longer accepts TLS 1.0 connections -- because they are now considered too weak -- then you would need at least MacOS X 10.6.8, which runs Firefox 48, to connect to them in Firefox. That's still considered obsolete and insecure, but maybe it will run on your system?

Thank you Wesley and jscher2000 for your replies. Much appreciated! I think it must be something to do with the fact my 2007 Mac can no longer be updated and the TLS 1.2 thingy. I guess mine is 1.0. The error messages I get all the time are attached. The Royal Bank, Optimum, Geocaching etc are the same (#1) . Sierra Club is very legitimate but another error comes up for that (#2) and others have the extra line at the bottom. It is all very frustrating. I guess I am forced to spend $1,399 on a new Mac? (sigh)

Hello again. Yet another reject notice. They are all similar but different and don't know why? Do you know?

Thank you so much!

If you do make sure you get a new rig 16gig of ram minimum.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 10.3 r183 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.113 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

What security software are you running ? There is security software like Avast/AVG, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

Highly probable that the TLS 1.2 thingy is the issue. I do not know or remember what Firefox you can update to. I think 16.
