I can't remove an autofill word
I have always clicked delete on the drop-down choice to delete it, but that doesn't work anymore. It has never worked on this horrible new HP computer, which has Windows 10.

Might find these pages useful for Win10 https://www.howtogeek.com/search/?q=Windows+10

You can use these steps to remove saved items from an autocomplete drop-down list.
- click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
- highlight an entry in the drop-down list with cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key - press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry
Note that hovering with the mouse no longer works.
Cor-el: What you stated is exactly what I have done that does not work. (I guess I meant that I pressed delete, not clicked it.)

Thanks, but I can't find relevant info. on the howtogeek site, even when I did my own search.
I looked already at the Mozilla support page when I was seeking a solution. That's apparently why I was allowed to set up an account.
No anyone with a question can set up a account. The how to was fyi as some very useful stuff in there to kick Win10's...
I think it is now in your Profile and that is a lot of work for you to figure out and many pages to read.
How about try this 1st : Please Refresh but do this 1st: Delete your Cookies and Cache and TEST.
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
then
TEST....... If no issues then Extensions which need to be added back in 1 at a time and tested ..... Or it is your Profile : Make a new one and test ...:
If is your Profile :
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
Note: Any customization will revert back to default, you will also need to reinstall Extensions.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Is this about an autocomplete in a username and password field or about a normal inpuut field (saved form data)?

Thank you. While your links and suggestions might work, the instructions on the pages confuse me. Maybe I'll try it one day when I'm feeling especially sharp.
A user name you can lookup in the Password Manager and remove it from there.
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"
Also check for entries with an empty user name or for multiple upper/lower-case versions.
Thanks. I knew that I could remove it from there, which I ultimately did, but I'll need to re-input it for the websites that the name was accurate for. It just wasn't accurate for one type of website (from which many other similar sites stemmed, using the same name). Now at least the autofill will fill in the right name because I removed the alternative name.
If anyone has any other suggestions as to how to make the delete key remove the wrong drop-down choice like it should, I would love to hear it.
Thank you, everyone.
PS. I'm not clicking that my problem was solved because the delete button still doesn't remove the drop-down autofill.
The Delete key (Mac: Shift + Delete) would normally remove the item in the drop-down list you select with cursor Down key. The item needs to be selected and show the select color. Hover shows differently and no longer applies the selected attribute.
Thank you, Cor-el, but we covered that previously, specifically in my first and last posts. I lamented that your stated procedure, which had worked for me for the lives of two other Win OSs on two other computers, no longer works on my new machine and new OS.
@jehpta, can you show a screen shot of what your trying to do?
I don't think so because I already deleted the item a different way.
