None of the Mozilla products are working properly anymore in my laptop (Windows 7):

Firefox Thunderbird Mozbackup

they can start but fail on opeations like restoring bookmarks or reading emails or backing up

WHY? Or they sa so incredibly slow, maybe if I leave the PC working overnight, they will respond but I cannot work like that

I have updated, reinstalled, diagnosed

The worst thing is when they crash and freeze my pc, then when I restart it it makes the loud intermittent bleep or goes to blue screen and tells me that maybe software installation made it fail.

Other programmes like google chrome work just fine.

Is there a common bug to all the Mozilla products, what is wrong?

thanks

BTW, they do not display properly anymore, they have navigation arrows and icons missing, for instance.

'Not responding' 'failed script' 'file not found' are the messages I now get from Mozilla when trying to restore bookmarks (Firefox lost them), back up Thunderbird with Mozbackup, etc.

I click on a Thunderbird message to delete it and the laptop freezes!

What is mozila doing to my laptop?????

Let’s do a full clean re-install; http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ Download Firefox For All languages And Systems

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird

Save the files. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop

===============

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Hi, thanks for the help. I did the above. I only used a basic registry cleaner to repair/remove errors from the registry. I had not done this for ages.

Firefox: for some reason, it went to install Firefox in the Program files directory and it found the bookmarks plus icons and arrows that had disappeared came back. The previous installation was on program files (x86) and it was full of problems. It look like Firefox works now.

As for Thunderbird, this was the programme that started the problems. It was freezing the computer. After the new installation, it is still opens, downloads emails but it will not let me see them when I click on the menu on the left to see what is in each folder. Some of the buttons are not there or do not open, like the calendar.

I tried to open the progamme in safe mode but I cannot get in safe mode. This is a separate problem. When I get to the window giving me the choice to boot up the keyboard is disabled so I cannot use the arrow or even enter or exit keys.

I have been having problems with my own with Thunderbird.

Create a shortcut on your desktop for TB. Then holding down the <shift> key start TB.

Wow! thanks it does start in safemode like this and it does work.

But why not work in 'ordinar mode'? Could it be that the updates have made it useless for Windows 7?

I don't know. Ask your question here; https://support.mozilla.org/questions/thunderbird

This user likely has hardware or driver issues.

I am trying to narrow it down to what causes the freezing, noise and message when re-starting the computer. So far, it only happens with Thunderbird.

When did Thunderbird start acting up?

About 4 weeks ago. I do not recall any major changes to the laptop since then, only that the battery is getting old and I get messages saying I should replace it.

I reinstalled all the Mozilla products and, as I said above, they all started working properly except for Thunderbird.

At the moment I am using it with and without safe mode but there is no pattern of behaviour, it is just random.

I see, did you try Earlybird or Thunderbird beta to see if the same problems happen?

No, I would assiume that beta or early bird version will be even more problematic.

The computer just crashed when trying to delete a message, I was not using thunder in safe mode. When I restarted it the loud bleeping and warnings came back. This only happens when I restart the laptop after thunder makes it crash

Hi, can you point me to a page where I can learn how to do this?

thanks

Note, Earlybird is no longer a good recommendation - the channel is obsolete and no longer gets updates

You might try Windows: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/candidates/52.1.1-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%2052.1.1.exe

I carried out the memory test and it came up with no errors.

The problem continues now with other apps too. I made changes to Zonelarm for more securiry since the new worldwide virus appeared: protect against people recording what I type online (anti-keylogger) then the computer got slower and later crashed but I do not know if it made the existing problem worse.

The PC stopped responding. I no longer select 'try to repair it' as it has never worked.

Now it is carrying out a disk check (chkdsk). It is very slow. It did not report errors

The battery can hold almost no charge but I do not see why this shoud be the problem when I have the computer plugged in.

I wish I knew which bit is failing just to replace it

I swtiched off the Zone Alarm Key-logger but the computer is failing big time now. It is incredibly slow and the mouse often freezes. I have to keep restarting the computer. It takes ages to re-start.

I ran the http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-7-reliability-monitor/ but it just reported the crashes and things I knew about.

There was an app I did not use which the reliabiltity monitor said was always failing to work. Is the Realdownload so I uninstalled Realplayer.

The conclusion:

The laptop got worse an worse. Slower, crashing with any programme, the beeps sounding when rebooting and failing to get into Windows. Between a laptop service engineer and I we tested it and checked it inside. The memory is working. We installed Windows 10 over the existing 7. Nothing helped.

It must be the graphics controller (the beeps code seem to say that) but this is attached to the mother board and the engineer told me it is not worth trying to replace it. Also the battery is going and it is expensive. Where I am, it is difficult to get these parts.

I guess the laptop is kaput. I got all the data out and put it in another laptop to be able to work.
