French accents not displaying correctly eg après becomes apr�s

This is not a Firefox problem because it also happens in Chrome. If I enter the address http://www.larousse.fr/dictionnaires/francais-anglais/après

apr�s appears in the search box and generates an error.

If I enter après in the search box, it works fine.

This happens for all words with accents. Is there a simple explanation? and a work around?

Wanted to see what's going on, so I entered the URL:   no question mark there   ........
Which leaves me with a question mark   ........

It doesn't make any sense to me:   you entered the correct   URL     --     and then not only do you get this question mark   (which is really weird);   but you also get a message saying that they can't find what you're looking for.
Two separate issues and I can't make head or tail of it, I'm afraid.
I can only hope that one of the experts here will be able to shine a light on it.
I'm truly sorry for not being able to come up with an answer   ......
